One word : Nascent

There's something here, guys. Let's hope the club can nurture it.

We need Latu in the 6. He is better than Galvin. He was more highly rated coming though the juniors. He is faster, more powerful, and a better defender than Galvin and his passing game is at least as good as Galvin’s (Latu has very quick hands and better sleight of hand).

Galvin touches the ball a lot but doesn’t do much with it. He is not much of a running threat. A bit like Jackson Hastings (a bit, don’t take it the wrong way, I’m not saying he’s Jackson Hastings).

Galvin’s only advantage over Latu is his fitness and that we’ve seen more of him.

I just don’t get all the love for Galvin. I think there is “group think” around him. I’m not saying Galvin is bad, he’s not. I just think Latu is better right now and will be much better in 2 years.

Ok, big call. Hopefully Fainu keeps growing his confidence in the top grade and there’s genuine competition for spots in the halves.

I thought Fainu started slowly tonight in his stint but got better, whereas Galvin looked classy from the get go.

@wiz

You might be right with a massive call early. Galvin to Garrys most talked about position Lock?

Resilience. We showed some. 80 minute performance, didn’t drop our heads with errors. Didn’t let errors compound. I saw some real camaraderie out there

Correct. A couple of shaky moments where the 23 or 24 team might have gone to water were mostly better handled.

I’m a bit surprised by the optimism after last night. We had some good individual contributions but I didn’t see much evidence that we have a game plan to win except to pass it around. Hopefully it is just misdirection ahead of round 1 but the only thing that looked good to me was Hunt quick play the ball to get defended backpedaling. We were also quite lucky that the eels made a lot of errors in their attacking 20. This was not a performance that would win an NRL game

My one word is Hope. TDS or Hope to start rd 1?  Both will obviously (to me) play but who would you have starting? I prefer TDS off bench at this point of his career so would probably start with Hope (I always start with hope).

One thing I noticed (I noticed more than one thing but..) last night was when we were in attacking positions Heath out wide would throw his arms up a little is if indicating “what’s going on fellas?”. He seemed unsure of what play was being called. Never saw any Eels doing that. Can only assume there was a lack of communication between the halves & outside backs at times. Can also explain the lack of opportunities for the edges although credit Eels who defended well for the most part.

We have api, turuva,luai,bula,olam  all to come into the side we put on 30 points and your surprised that supporters are optimistic. I can only imagine your thoughts had they lost

sure but eels didn’t have Moses, brown, Paulo, lane, joffa so there was plenty missing on both sides. For me it’s less the cattle and more the system that was glaringly missing. In 2023 we had no trouble marching down the field but it was our inability to throw any shape or structure in the redzone that blew up our season. Even last night there seemed to be no thought behind where we wanted to be on the field to setup for tackle 3,4,5. It was just more settler hit ups or trying to barge over. We have the players now, Richo has done his job. Benji needs to prove he has a plan or he won’t last the season.

Hope on train and trial so can’t play rd 1 is that correct? Shame if so but fair enough. Will be up to TDS to play the majority of the game & hopefully do a really good job. Still just 19 though & plenty of development still to gone for him.

And the halves & dummy half all have to be on the same page. When you have a guy like Lachie who likes to get his hands on the ball both sides of the field, and can create, then the attack will be less structured unless you have a strong voice directing things. Over to you Mr Luai. But even then it might take 3 or 4 or 5 games to get a better combination going.
