Observations from the first quarter:

  • Seyfarth sloppy marker defence was to blame for the first dolphin try. Let Marshall king put them on the front foot.
  • Lovely show and go by luai for our first try. Prince-eque! AD goal kicking is chefs kiss as well.
  • Lovely carries by the wingers. Geez they’ve been good. Turuva is deceptively strong and nuggety.
  • Halves continue to look a little lost and unstructured in attack.
  • joel called it in the pod this week, Nikorima and Marshall king look like superstars against us

Jack Bird hit up followed by Royce Hunt is sexual. Then we throw a forward pass with all the momentum. I know lachy needs time to learn the game, but golly gosh that hurts.

Backed up with a penalty and we compound the whole situation. Lucky they took the two.

Jack Bird lovely run and quick play the ball led to Robbie Talyn Da Silva burying over.

The game is there for us. Just need to stop the crap (5-1 penalty count and poor fifth tackle options).

Halves aren’t always unstructured. There’s been some structure & shape but Lachie & Romey also like to play some eyes up footy so it will be unstructured a bit as well. Will take time to find the right balance.

I don’t mind the unstructured stuff, it actually makes me a bit nostalgic! But you’re right about balance. There were 4-5 sets of six where we were caught with the ball on the last tackle. They were bookended by 7 tackle sets off poor kicks. I’d also argue the shape that’s been thrown has either been too slow, too deep, or run the edges out of room.

We are still in it but not sure how many points are in the breeze…

Are there different rules for us in the ruck?! They are able to keep wrestling and lay all over us but we get penalised!

Really nice win. Proud of the win and great to see some really good trends around defending mistakes, goal line defence and staying in the game. Luai hasn’t yet really stamped his influence on the game through his actions but he certainly brings a much more calm approach on the field, knowing that it’s how you finish that matters. I actually thought that was our worst game so to come away with the win was fantastic. We lose that game the last 5 years. We really look as solid defensively than we were when Cleary was our coach. Great signs.

thought Bula, toa, may some of our best last week were quite. Thought api was brilliant, Seyfarth had a good game without mistakes and a key try, TDS did his job perfectly, douhie did his job very well also. Really looking forward to when our attack really clicked because Galvin again was quiet. Exciting times ahead.

I'm on holidays in NZ so missed the game and have been trying to patch together what happened from everyone's posts.

What a great result held phins to nil in second half and now 2 wins away from home.

Well done lads!

Api TDS interchange worked a treat again. I actually thought api was looking a little tired in his second stint, but then went bang bang with the try assist and try to swing the game with class.

Also thought AD had a sensational game out wide in defence, particularly as Skelton came off early. Made some critical reads and hit hard when racing out of the line.

May did May things. Havent checked the stats but he must have hit 150+ metres. Twal was good and sione had a couple of good runs off the bench. Bird and Hunt were brilliant again.

Plenty to work on. Still plenty of missed tackles and penalties, but when it came to the crunch, the cream (api) rose to the top.
