Wests Tigers Podcast - Talking everything Wests Tigers!
Just started listening & agree 100% that middles are changing to a more mobile kind of middle. However there are still a few boppers around who are game changers, AFB, Nelson, Haas but all can play 40 or more mins a game. Nelson was dropped early in the season because he found it tough to play good minutes, it’s also why Bellamy shifted Loiero to 13, he can see that middles are changing somewhat. But most clubs will have good, mobile, hard working middles, a bit of footwork at the line helps AFB style. But those elite, mobile boppers are few & far between & rightly so cost big dollars. The majority of clubs look for a Lindsay Collins or a Lindsay Smith kind now because that’s where it’s heading.
What I’ve heard in regards to Sione & Tim Jo’ is that they’ve been promised top 30 spots but will wait for a couple of others to be moved on. Obviously our hope is to shift JB & Bud but if not we could pay out another minimum wage player. I don’t know this as fact, only what I’ve heard on WTFaithful pod so….
Eddie!!! Good rant mate. Yes, we’re missing a great opportunity here right now at the club. More content such as interviews during this part of preseason. Luai will get plenty of media later but how about the guys there now including coaching staff?
The club has to sell Lachie, TDS, Makasini etc that idea of building a great club for their community. They need to be connected to that community as much as possible, not tokenistic stuff but real, meaningful connection. We as fans need to let them know how important it is to us to be a part of their community. Build that connection. Luai will hopefully talk to Lachie, in particular, about that. At a point later in his career an opportunity to play elsewhere might avail itself but right now, whilst still young & developing help build a club that your community looks to for a sense of pride & belonging.
I would hope at the very least we can extend Lachie one more year, until 2027 as that would give him 2 years to work with Luai before any thought of any future contract negs take place. At the end of 2026 he would be ok to talk to other clubs but hopefully (I’m sure we will) we’ll be experiencing some success by then. His manager would know that a new club will then be looking for a marquee signing so if money was an issue then he could look there if that’s what he wanted to do. But why not now, whilst so young, just concentrate on footy for the next 2 season with no distractions? The club has to sell Lachie, TDS, Makasini etc that idea of building a great club for their community. It’s one reason I’d look at Josh King for 2026 should we not resign Pole & Klemmer. King is very solid & mobile enough to do a good job in the middle. He also won the preseason award there last year which shows you he’s a very disciplined trainer. And plenty experience.Just started listening & agree 100% that middles are changing to a more mobile kind of middle. RE Eddie with the off season interviews 🤷♂️I don’t want extra ‘fluff’ interviews thank you very much.
Great pod guys. Good to listen to some positive analysis, long may it last. hope the club gives us reason for continued optimism.
I tend to be a glass half empty kinda guy sometimes although I'd prefer to think cautious. Listening to all the talk of throwing the a massive $$$ 10year deal at Galvin tied to the cap made me think of what we would have thrown at Benji in 2005, and how that would have panned out for him and us.
My natural pessimism aside, clearly Galvin & Benji are different styles of player with much different strengths, but I can see some similarities. Both were/are very slight early in their careers and obviously Benji's early career was based on that step and speed off the mark which disappeared once he bulked up to save his body. I still am concerned that Galvin will also bulk, either by design or nature and he doesnt have the speed that Benji had.
That said, if the Tigers announced he was tied up for 10years, my initial reaction would be happiness, but the anxiety would follow.
On the 10 year deal for Galvin… it’s a definite sell for me. Let’s first see what he can offer in ‘25 and go from there. See what the second year sydrome has install. I think he’s a good player and could get to the elite range. But for now he doesn’t need the pressure of a long term contract.
I thought Garry made some good points regarding HBG and governance at the end as well. At the end of the day we need that barrier and buffer between HBG & the club.

100%. Hopefully the days of the “fossils” having any direct say over the football operations are over.

Thanks for the pod boys, thought you were spot on covering everything going on around the club. Liked and 100% agree with Eddie's rant about the lack of social media at this time of the year, wouldn't think it would take a lot to keep members and fans more engaged and help push memberships.
I think Garry's idea to sign Kobe Hetherington now for 26 which in turn puts pressure on the Broncos to possibly release him for 25 is very smart. One we should be exploring and at the very least we cause some issues for the Broncos 😀
With regards to the social media engagement at the moment, I noticed about 2 weeks ago the Tigers advertised for a trainee (I think) videographer. My son works in the field and that is why I noticed the add. Maybe the club is in the process of getting their ducks in a row.
