You can never excuse bad crowd behavior especially personal abuse but there is a palpable sense of frustration among Tigers fans borne out of a decade of failure.
Rightly or wrongly I don't think there will be any allowance made for the fact that this is a new coaching team with a number of new players and eve this early in the season next weeks game at home to Newcastle is absolutely huge.
It's become a must win game.
i understand the frustration and felt it myself. Very disappointed but in the cold light of day today, I dont think its as dire as everyone is making out. Last night, most of the fundamentals were good. For YEARS, we have been begging for our pack to lay a platform, begging for metres, begging to tighten up our middle defence, begging for forced repeat sets and building pressure, begging for something other than 5 hit ups and bomb. All of those fundamentals were there last night but the polish, like simply hanging onto the ball, not running out, catching an in goal bomb was not.
Not running out, catching bombs etc are a lot easier to fix than the fundamentals and Im encouraged that I saw enough last night to have hope and faith.
Agree with you that next Sunday is a big game.
I’ll never boo our players but that’s just me. When they’re struggling is when they need support the most. It’s much easier to support when all is going well.It is a little alarming how quickly some members of the crowd did turn on the players, aiming their frustrations at the usual suspects as well. These players are going to have to be very strong characters if it continues. Hopefully a turn in fortunes might help the matter.
It was the first game of the season, new coach, new slate etc and Brooks was booed when they read out the teamsheet. I thought it was disgusting.
I agree, that sort of behaviour is below the belt.
But it will get louder if he doesn't improve, especially if Wakeham continues to play well.
Agreed on that. I don't boo our players but wow haven't I felt like doing so at times ha!
@tiger5150 I think you’re right there on execution over fundamentals. I have rewatched the game, especially the second half and we aren’t far away. If anything we are trying too hard. Brooks and Laurie the main culprits tbh. Imo we were trying to play football like we were going to entertain instead of earning it first. I’m hoping for less ball playing forwards and more tough meters. And for goodness sake get atad deeper. The one thing that bugged me pre match was the team gelling. Now the only way that will happen is if keep the same team together. Easier said then done with us as our right edge could be out for rd 2. But the call for wholesale changes is not gonna happen. This could be a slow burn for us and I for one have to revalue my predictions for the team.
Despite the result yesterday it was just so good to be out there and supporting the boys. To ride the emotions during a game of footy is one of the great pleasures in life. Looking forward to next Sunday.
Agreed. While the result was frustrating, I definitely enjoyed watching the style of play yesterday compared with last year. Glad the season is back and look forward to watching them this weekend do it all again. That said, all my hope and spirit was crushed around this time last year after the knights game…hopefully it’s not a repeat.
It’s probably important in terms of confidence but I think calling the 2nd game of the year a must win game is over the top. I think every game is important, they’re all worth 2 pts to the winner. 2 pts right now would be nice but it won’t mean the end of the season if we lose either. We need to see the team improve each week and hopefully that’ll bring with it some wins. Hopefully it starts next Sunday. You can never excuse bad crowd behavior especially personal abuse but there is a palpable sense of frustration among Tigers fans borne out of a decade of failure.

Just listened to the podcast and another great podcast guys, particularly so quickly after the game, good to get those initial raw perspectives.
Also I should probably listen to the pod before posting in the pod thread because Declan already made most of my points, more eloquently and Garry made a good argument against my Brooks argument.
