@mike what progress have we made?
We’ve gone from 9th to last and gone backwards in defence and attack. Apart from that he’s doing great lol.
What nonsense, defence this year has been outstanding. Stop worrying about the ladder, the team is becoming a team. It will serve us well down the track. It’s the attitude that is the most important, get that right and success will come. As I posted above we also have our best attacking players injured or suspended, that’s not going to last forever. There is no quick fix for what ails the Tigers, it’s hard work and dedication is what is needed and Maguire is the right man to coach this team.
You said the same thing around this time last year. Now you’re sticking with the narrative yet again even though we’ve gone backwards further still.
We’re coming last and have lost our last 7 in a row. We have just played the Warriors and the Titans who played absolutely dreadful and we still couldn’t beat them. Before that we capitulated against the Knights and we got easily beaten by Melbourne. We’ve gone from a team that we’re laughed at for coming 9th all the time to paying $1.72 to get the spoon.
If that’s your idea of heading in the right direction I think you need a new compass.
It will take as long as it takes. My compass is just fine thanks. We may or may not get the spoon, but that won’t be on the coach but on the players. We are indeed heading in the right direction, the winning culture is being drummed into the team. You have to get all the basics right first and that’s all about attitude.

I will judge the effort and attitude of this team in a months time, this squad has a history of giving up when the going gets tough. The Newcastle was a carbon copy of us failing to turn up in games from last year.

Can’t believe I’m stating this but… his last couple of press conferences I’ve really liked. Maybe it’s because we’ve hit rock bottom… but I see in his eyes that he wants to get us out of this mire.
I can't watch his press conferences anymore, they are full of quasi business speak and shifting of blame.

Our attitude was fine under Cleary. We arguably had a poorer roster than now but he had them competing and really playing for each other, we even upset a few of the top teams. The real decline happened once Maguire arrived. The first year we finished 9th with Cleary's squad, and since then, the more he's rolled the team over to be more his roster and the more he's ingrained himself in the team, the worse the performances have been.
I think that's down to two main reasons. Firstly, as you say attitude. The players aren't playing for Madge like they played for Cleary - he's not a good man manager. Secondly, coaching. I admit the last couple of weeks we've shown more resolve, but we still look like a football team that is un-coached. In attack they have absolutely no idea what they're doing, like there is no game plan or they're not prepared properly. It's not lack of fitness, it's a lack of coaching.
I think the roster he and the club and Madge has assembled is hopeless. We have no winning culture because we don't have a team that knows how to win. Take out Tamou (who isn't much of a leader anyway) and we have no players who have won an NRL grand final. Only a handful have ever played finals football. It's just a bunch of players that have no track record of success matched with a coach who hasn't had a winning season since 2015. It's a recipe for disaster.
The entire organisation stinks. The board, the CEO, the Coach are all responsible for where we find ourselves at the moment and none of them deserve to keep their jobs. If we don't pull our finger out and do something quickly we seriously might not survive as a club.
BTW this isn't a rant directed at you Mike, i'm just sick to death of the incompetence this club rolls out every year. It's indefensible imo.

There is always a game plan, last year it has 5 hitups with a kick and the odd slow motion block play thrown in. There has been a shift in our playing style this season, we are spreading the ball early to try and get our impact forwards the ball early in sets. We have been spreading to Lucy and Tuilagi as they are our damaging forwards, most sides use damaging forwards through the middle of the field and then play eyes up football off the back of that. We do not have the impact middle forwards to play in this fashion.
