Who would you choose as Head Coach?

As we’re sitting in dead last and a change in coach looking more likely after each defeat, who would you like to take the reins?

I don’t think a rookie coach could handle the role, unless they had Bellamy style qualities. Is Ciraldo that coach? Who knows.

Of the experienced coaches available, Neil Henry is very good at rebuilds however probably won’t win you a title. Flanagan is a divisive choice for obvious reasons, Paul Green is Madge 2.0. Toovey? John Morris?

I would go:

1) Ciraldo- The next up and coming coach with a great reputation among players and Sheens can mentor him to start off with as a draw card

2) Kristian Woolf- Similar to Ciraldo as he has a good reputation amounts players with the work he has done with Tonga. Woolf has also been really successful coaching St Helen’s in the super league so he has the head coaching experience that Ciraldo is lacking

3) either John Morris or Brett Hodgson- both have played under sheens and I think that Morris did a good job under bad circumstances at the Sharks and Hodgson has had decent results without being incredible in super league.

For the 101st time (for @geo sake ) are any of these choices better than Madge and or more invested in Madge ??

Flanagan would be the only one ...and is it worth it to travel down that path ??

I genuinely can’t think of a worse option than Madge. I’d take anyone.

The problem is the playing group .....that is the worst option in the NRL .....

He signed or re-signed all of them. It’s on him. Also, everyone always talks about the mess Cleary left him but in his first year we came 9th with Cleary’s squad. The more it’s become his squad the worse it’s become.

Let’s remember that he’s had 7 losing seasons in a row. He has been unable to adapt to the modern game and appears completely clueless. He has no idea and has no answers.

In the end you have to spend your 95.5% of your cap every season and a roster needs to be filled .....players haven't wanted to be associated with the WT's for a long time .....unless Papalii and Koroisau have been told Madge won't be around in 2023 they signed willingly to play under Madge

Then you'd have to ask why the club hasn't got the 2023 coach in the system NOW setting up his plans NOW and setting us up for the future ....which seeing the stupidity involved in running the club isn't beyond the bounds lol ...but then again it proves my next point

The defence looks fixed to a point .....and it keeps you in every game .....which is a big selling point to potential spine signings

The club has been the problem since Day 1 ...and anyone who disagrees with that is in denial .....

But as I just said to @ Declan .....you can't only spend 70 % of your cap .....and Madge looks to have fixed the defence . ....that will become attractive to attacking players / spine ......lot easier for the potential spine signings if they only have to be chasing 18 points to get a win instead of 32 points every week

@unhappy-tiger We’re on a Seven game losing streak and we just played two really average teams that aren’t going to make the 8 and we still couldn’t win. Surely Madge is somewhat responsible for that.

you day the defense is fixed but I have a funny feeling this comment isn’t going to age well after the sharks and eels games.

But then again if Madge had a crystal ball and knew that we would have so many injuries to the potential guys he signed that could possibly get us over the line v Warriors and Titans  ......The Cronulla game worries me ... I think what happened mentally v the Titans and to a lesser extent the Warriors will have a lot to do with that ....

Come up with some better names on the coaching list and you might get my attention ....but those names aren't attractive ...everyone naming Ciraldo is assuming he will bring 5 players with him ...maybe if it was a better club yes .....but we are the WT's ....the laughing stock of the NRL ...the club players use as a stepping stone ....or even an excuse to join and just as quickly leave ......

No coach..

Most NRL players have been playing Rugby League since they were 6..  if the don't know how to play by now  they never will..

@unhappy-tiger With the exception of maybe Luciano can you think of any players who have improved since joining? Mbye was very good under Cleary, hopeless under Maguire. Brooks has gone from being a decent halfback to barely NRL level. Twal has regressed too.

And re: our defence, we got smashed by the Knights and then played two teams unlikely to make finals. Let’s see how we go against someone decent.

I wouldn’t be declaring our defence “fixed” just yet. The Warriors and Titans were hardly stretching us and we conceded 26 against the Storm and Knights. The next two games are massive for Maguire and the club.

In regards to coaching options. I reckon Flanagan and Ciraldo would attract players (that we might not have got with Maguire) so that’s a plus straight off.

Wolfe is a fairly unknown quantity so it’s hard to advocate too strongly for him at this stage.

I'm not sure if Flanagan and Ciraldo attract many keepers .....players have issues with joining the WT's more than anything else .....and thats what many don't seem to grasp .....
