@helmesy I agree but I place more blame at the club than Tamou.
It's a disgrace that we've managed ourselves to get to a point where we have no leaders or potential capatains in our squad. That's a result of 5-10 years of bad management and lack of investment in pathways.
You also have some stat's raised in this week's pod, like scentre 2nd most games as captain with 80 games and only 4 players that have played over 200 games. Both show a lack of longevity in players staying at the club, matched with sawpping coaches, means we lack culture and identity.
Even our 2 best players who are synonymous with WT were booted out of the club.
Anyway all this leads to is us getting us to a position where we need to 'buy in leadership' with player at the end of their career. Then we wonder why they don't 'get what it's like to be a tiger'
Luckily I think the mistakes of the past will be corrected.
In 3 years time AD a local junior will be captain and will be bleeding for the jersey.
Top 8 2023

Even AD had to leave to get a start to his career.

Helmesy,I’m absolutely on the same page re James Tamou.I would prefer to put it in the tone deaf and completely clueless category as he seems a really decent man.Trouble is,he hasn’t shared the ongoing pain and angst of the Wests Tigers faithful carrying the burden of Ivan Cleary’s handiwork. For that crime of insensitivity alone he should be relieved of the captaincy!!Then again he might’ve been half shot at 2am and scrolling...and then there were Daino’s antics.Whoops.
Nonetheless I’d consider Twally interim captain until AD returns.Adam plays with unbelievable passion, has local pedigree and detests losing. It’s etched all over his face after a loss(too frequently),and a quality you want in a captain.

I think AD is a future captain but not quite ready yet.

For mine, Douehi is good on media interviews, so he can talk the talk. When he resumes playing, I reckon he'll run the run, so best option for me. Players like Blore are impressive but don't have the needed senioity; maybe in a few years after we see how his development goes.

If he wasn’t injured would that make it an easier decision for 2022?

It would, but he has areas of his game I want to see him do a lot of work on and I don't know if the captaincy would send the right message in that regard.
But let's be honest, if he wasn't injured he really is our only choice because we are far too light for leaders in this team so he would be my reluctant choice.

After listening to the podcast(Bravo for creativity in format!),fair point that Garry makes re Adam Doueihi.I agree that at times he tends to hold the ball rather than let it sing, sometimes oblivious to the overlap. Was frustrating, even though he was our most potent point of attack, but confident he can develop that side of his game.Maybe another year before he takes the reins then, given he’ll be absent for a chunk.Having said that,no one is screaming out for the job so who knows what a year will bring especially with Jackson’s arrival, and another reason that the trials are going to be instrumental in answering the question.
One of the prerequisites for the captaincy has to be automatic self selection, sorry to say that is something James Tamou no longer does for mine.Too many minutes off the field.Maybe he’ll turn it around, but, personality wise he ain’t no Robbie Farah. It’s so crucial to the make up and success of a team, but is where with the wrong choice you shoot yourself in the foot.Moses Mbye..lovely bloke, but not a driving force.Hope we get this one right.

Really well said mate and summed up my thought pretty well, welcome to the forum as well.
I often think people probably believe that I don't like AD, that is not the case, I think he is a really good player who has the potential to be great.

Cheers mate, have observed the other forum as a non participant.A lot of playing the man rather than the ball, not that I want to put the boot in,but the Podcast Forum from my observation is a more civil and objective platform.Year of the Tiger!

Well keep posting mate, really enjoying your input.

@garry just one a list of players that had an underwhelming season. Tim Brasher captained from the wing, the great Warren Boland as well 🤘
They also played with an attitude that I would expect from a captain. Nofa seems to be a guy that feels like he plays at a level above his team mates.
He has the captain's stare and that's it
@unhappy-tiger it's really our biggest issue.
We need on field leadership and get a bit of grittiness about us.
We need some ticker to turn those close games to wins, and stop the loses turning into floggings
I agree. Interesting how there’s basically no love for Tamou. I can’t believe how tone deaf he was, or just didn’t care, when he had his social media gushes of love for “Nate and the boys”. I don’t think of him even as a Wests Tiger, let alone the leader of the team.
Very similar to the Blair signing ...people loaded way too much expectations on him ...he isn't a 200 metre / 40 tackle player and probably never really was ...bar when he played us lol

That’s a good point about him looking a star when playing us in the past. Has the club put too much expectation on him? Is his heart not in it after being part of that dominant Panthers team? His gushing over the Panthers on social media might suggest so.
Peachey always looked a star when playing us too 😆

Doesn't every player have that on their resume lol ....I'm a SOO level player when I play the Tigs
