I know there are quite few people online celebrating this "hard line" approach to "standards" at the club, but IMO this is a terrible approach. Issuing an official breach is a legal and contractual move that makes a player a step closer to getting legally sacked. Terrible for culture and morale and patently clear that the club is desperate to move people on and free up Contract spots. IMO pretty much confirms none of the top players are included.
Just put them in fat club and flog them like every other club.
@tiger5150 So the standards that the players obviously see as Ok that has lead to 3 spoons seems ok with some here!
Players were given protocols to adhere to on there time off , many have disregarded this .. Imo the five should be sacked immediately, things have to change the culture has to change .These fools did not realise the club is looking to create roster spots and they think there dealing with that loser Pascoe and have just realised there dealing with a very tough and experienced CEO that will not take any crap ! This article is the best article I have read for months maybe things have change for the better
I can't see how issuing breaches is terrible for morale and culture?
I'd say what's terrible for morale and culture is allowing 5 players to avoid consequences for not doing the right thing by themselves and teammates... and would think that there's be plenty of players who have done the right thing during off season that would be very supportive.

Every single club has players return overweight, every year, and they get put in fat club and flogged. The best and most professional clubs have players return overweight and they dont place their Contracts in jeopardy, they teach them by flogging them. are Penrith and Storm players getting Contract breaches? No.
These players at other clubs (and I assume at our club in previous years) dont "avoid consequences" they get flogged hard in front of their team mates. Physical pain and humilation are good motivators and teams working together to meet standards are GOOD for morale and culture.
These players are young and have very fragile and insecure careers and trying to motivate by fear is terrible for morale and culture. This is a group of very young men with a very small sprinkling of talented players within them. They collectively have been through YEARS of poor standards, poor performance and a culture of LOSING. it must be near impossible to establish a positive atmosphere and culture within the group. Adding a layer of fear and fragility is not a benefit. IMO its a sign of an immature and inexperienced coaching staff. Cleary/Bellamy are not doing this.
The club needs to set standards but its how it does it. Other players (who didnt fail fitness test) dont see this standard being set, they hear about it and whispers amongst the players that such and such might get their contract torn up. Alternative the rest of the squad watches the fat club getting flogged, stirring them up, teasing them etc, that builds a positve standard.
I can understand your point but if it’s bad for morale than those affected need to be moved on too. Until you have everybody doing what’s needed to become successful then weed out those who can’t buy in. I don’t know how others felt when viewing some photos of the boys back in training but I was a little disappointed by the appearance of a few of them. I haven’t commented because the photos might not be the best evidence of that.I know there are quite few people online celebrating this "hard line" approach to "standards" at the club, but IMO this is a terrible approach. Im not advocating no consequences for coming back fat, Im saying that this method of threatening young players livelihoods is inexperience and will be counterproductive. Young immature men will not necessarily react positively to these threats and there may also be some cultural complications. There are much better ways to establish and set these standards, like they do at the good and professional clubs.
Might just leave this here.

We are coming off 3 spoons. We need to IMPROVE relative to our competition in 2025. I can’t see how holding players accountable for not meeting club standards is a problem
@Tiger5150 Don’t entirely agree. Standards have to start somewhere. They were forewarned…
If they fail to react positively then it’s a fault of the leadership group within the playing group, not the coach. The leadership group should set the standards & with the coaching staff ensure everyone understands why those standards need to be met & if young players, or experienced players, fail to meet those standards at a club that’s had 3 wooden spoons then a breach notice should be the least of their worries. I can guarantee Lachie Galvin & TDS will be happy with that kind of leadership & that’s what we need.Im not advocating no consequences for coming back fat, Im saying that this method of threatening young players livelihoods is inexperience and will be counterproductive. Perhaps “the least of their worries” is not the best phrase to use. But it’s a warning to them we need you guys to be better or we’ll not turn this around & we, more than any other club, need to turn this around. If they fail to react positively then it’s a fault of the leadership group within the playing group, not the coach. No one is advocating that they are not held accountable. Its the method Im questioning.
Coming of 3 spoons, a positive and cohesive squad culture and mentality is more important than ever.

Okay, avoid 'serious' consequences then. Getting put in a 'fat club' where it can potentially be laughed off is also not serious enough for the situation we are in.
It must have been a forthright discussion about this beforehand, and they agreed. By not honoring their part in the agreement they did not take it seriously enough.
And they need the support of their team mates to help them be better, that will build camaraderie. Not humiliation/derision from them for being in a fat club.
Any method can be questioned. Would a rap over the knuckles or a few words from the coach be enough to ensure all the players adhere to the standards? As it is we are a club in serious need of a highly disciplined squad hellbent on becoming successful. It’ll be mainly up to the leadership group to ensure we’re a positive & cohesive squad. And we will have guys who can do that this year.We are coming off 3 spoons. We need to IMPROVE relative to our competition in 2025. Backing the club here.
5 players warned with 2 or more having to explain themselves more so. Which suggests that there are levels of missing their marks.
