What they did wasn't that bad, but the issue is that common sense would tell you that in a team that is constantly smashed by the media, going to the pokies in a crowded pub the night before a game wouldn't be a great look and would be seized upon by the media. I just don't think we're in a position where we need to give them extra ammo, they have enough already.
I honestly don't care if they are there the morning of the game, maybe they had a pub feed and a quick slap before they left. Total no event, Roberts very well good be a personality that doesn't cop well with being stuck in a hotel room. Just a joke to be honest.
It isn't what they did, the issue is the lack of self awareness to bring more negative media attention to the club when it could have been easily avoided. We can't control what they write about us but we don't need to give them stuff on a platter either. Walking into the most crowded pub on a saturday night and playing the pokies is asking for a headline.
And for the record, I couldn't care less what they do in their spare time provided they're ready to play - we just don't need more negative headlines.
I even disagree with that, I don't care that there is a headline and don't expect people to avoid doing something we would all do just because some media outlet wants to have a crack at us. Next away game I would take the entire team to the pub for a feed the night before the game, it is a joke that this is even a discussion.
We are talking about this when a former NRL player is in the middle of a sexual assault trial that has garnered minimal media attention, the media had their priorities all wrong and people shouldn't have to change what they do because of that.

We’ll have to agree to disagree then lol.
with regards to Burgess, should absolutely be the main story and he shouldn’t be able to play imo.

I'm not talking about Burgess, that shows how complete off the media are with their reporting.

Agree re the media but if you give them no ammo they’ll have nothing to write. If we win and don’t do anything stupid the stories will stop. We’re a target due to our many years of underperformance.

Going to the pub and playing pokies isn't doing something stupid, you don't change your life for someone else's stupid, hypercritical expectations. You call them out for their stupidity and live your life.

I disagree with you. I think when you’re away with the squad and you’re already under the microscope you need to avoid doing anything that could be picked up by the media, rightly or wrongly.

Is playing the pokies in the busiest pub in Newcastle the only thing they can do?
not sure why you always defend everything the club does…
@avocadoontoast I'm not defending the club, this is a rubbish story

When I saw the headline I thought "oh God no..". When I read the report that they werent drinking and left by 9, I was relieved and to be honest felt happy for JTJ and a little proud for him that he is able to sit in a pub without drinking. Its a really good sign to be honest.
You can't not let them out to do things like this. They are young blokes and this is what they choose to do.
If they didn't let them do what they wanted to then the story would be "Tigers won't even let their player go have a counter meal and a punt. We all know James Roberts doesn't do well cooped up in a hotel."
The club is damned if they do and damned if they don't.
We need more captains to ensure this doesn't happen again .......I guess players need to earn the right to go out pre game by winning games ....it it was a Munster for example you wouldn't care because you know he shows up to play
@canberratiger Precisely. They are citizens of this country and afforded basic rights just like the next person.Everything else should be deemed totally irrelevant. They were offending nobody except for the delicate morals of the sanctimonious Fox nrl360 sewage outlet!
These “journalists”are scouring the bottom of the pond and needless to say,WTs “basket case”are the soft kill.
