It’s crazy that we have signed someone like Staines and he is an after thought .
the last few years we’d have been talking about him being a game breaker and the one to lift us over the top.
it’s been a good off season .

Tim Sheens interview this evening (from 29 mins)

https://www.2gb.com/podcast/wide-world-of-sports-full-show-28-december/

The main takeaways for me were:

  • captain is likely to be a new recruit
  • big wraps on the young brigade, particularly stef and pole
  • the trials will be very interesting

i took the opposite out of it. He said ideally its an established Tiger, said it didnt matter who because your spine leads anyway. Interestingly he said you can have a centre captain and the spine leads anyway.

So an established player and centre......AD for centre and Captain anyone?

Yeah I went back and relistened and I think you and Jedi are right. I thought when he was talking up the new guys as natural leaders he was suggesting they would be the key candidates but as you mentioned, he indicated it would be an established spine player so AD or brooks sounds about right.

@tigertownsfs think Brooks will take a restructured type deal to end up a one club player and be coached by Sheens

As for AD he is in a different spot this contract needs to be a good one for him. Still think uncle Wayne will come knocking at dolphins if he wants to play 6

deep down I would love to cheer on a successful brooks era. He has stood by the club , tried his guts out and had so much crap go on around him. I would love for sheens to rebuild him as the super talent he seemed at the beginning of his career. I guess we’ll find out soon enough

Lets be clear, Brooks didn’t stand by the club. He stayed because the Tigers paid him huge sums of money despite consistent poor performances on the park and no one else offered him anything close.

The narrative that he was somehow too loyal to the club to the detriment of his career is risible nonsense.

I should have qualified this by saying in my opinion but I’m fairly certain I’m pretty close to the mark.

@garry I think there will be, Doueihi is a good player, just hasn’t nailed down a position yet. The Storm were supposedly interested last year to get him on loan weren’t they? He’d do really well down there in that system you’d think but there might be others interested.
A thought just occurred to me regarding Doueihi as an attractive proposition for clubs looking for a 6 or a Centre. Doueihi has obviously strengthened over the past couple of seasons due to maturing physically and due to injuries (more time to work in the gym). There’s a player with untapped physical abilities there. Given the right circumstances he could be an explosive runner of the ball. Not sure how many clubs would see it that way, if any as I could be way off the mark.

@tiger5150 There are so many players off contract 2024 that haven’t been talked about so far and that’s probably because managers were telling them to wait to see what happens to the cap. Clubs haven’t been sure what they could do either. Right now we have about 10 spots open for 2024, the Dogs the same and so on. Now with some clarity over what they can spend there should be plenty of contract talk over the next month or so.

my recollection was that he was considered a very promising 7 when he re-signed under Taylor. The Madge contract seems over the top but my point is that I don’t think I’ve ever seen him give up. Whether he has the talent/can rediscover the talent he had I don’t know but I would rather cheer a golden era of brooks than Moses. I’ll take any golden era but brooks has always come across as a decent person

It was pretty widely reported that he took a pay cut (from his previous contract) in 2018 to stay at the Tigers.

Thats interesting since he signed his current deal in 2018 reportedly worth 1.1 million in the final year.

Problem is he see himself as a $1m spine player, I don't think he is.

@celtic_tiger dude no offence , But seriously the brooks bashing echo chamber is another wests tigers url . I’m all for criticism but the axe to grind stuff is so old . And I’m sure most are really sick of reading it , not just here , but every single social media platform.
and as for what you said , you have absolutely no idea if it was the money or not . It’s just speculation, either for or against your opinion.
you didn’t need to type that . It’s all been said before . And as I said , it’s baseless in anything remotely akin to evidence . It might be true . He might be the biggest shit heel on the planet . And if he is . All the best .
but god I’m sick of reading every single thread ever have someone say “worst half in the comp” type hyperbole .

anyways I’m not attacking you , I’m just sick of reading it . And this forum just doesn’t go down that rabbit hole ever . Thank god .

@lestronge I’d argue that there is way more Adam Douehi bashing on here but that seems to be fine and acceptable even though I think it goes too far at times and in generally is not based in fact but I also appreciate that this is a fans forum where people are entitled to their opinions.

So if it’s all the same to you I’ll continue to express my opinions and I will be happy to clarify why I hold these.

Feel free to scroll past if you don’t want to read.

I reckon we should try a New Year’s resolution - let’s give these guys a clean slate in 2023 and see what they can do.

Both are off contract and there’s still a chance that Moses comes in 2024, I think it will sort itself out and Sheens/Benji won’t offer contracts on nostalgia or potential, but on ability.
