If we sack Madge there is every chance we lose Jacko Hastings. There are plenty of clubs out there willing to let him write his own cheque to get his services. That would be cutting off nose to spite face. There’s little point in letting Madge go at this juncture. If we were to have done it,it should’ve been at season’s end last year.We chose not to and set upon that path.To alter that path again smells of one step forward and two steps back.We probably don’t make the eight in line with predictions this year, but there is still a lot of room for optimism going forward.People can cite the fact he’s had 3 years, but in reality it’s cause and effect, and it’s only now that he’s starting to get his team together albeit under the influence of Sheens.

To dump Madge now opens a whole raft of uncertainties.

If Hastings is such a primadonna he needs to be coached by Madge then he can go too.

He wouldn't be a primadona -not like he's breaking contract

he would be on the open market and would make the decision on what's best for him.

If madge isn't he - and a more attractive club offer him a contract

That's just reality

Fine by me. If he wants to go elsewhere so be it. The new coach will hopefully be more successful at attracting talent than Madge was anyway.

Madge has attracted:

- Hastings

- Api

- Papali'i

- Luciano

- Kenny

- Tamou

As established players

Plus all the promising younger crew.

As a team that hasn't played finals for as long as we have - you don't have top players knocking down our door

Look at Bennet and the Dolphins

Not really a great list from 4 seasons in the job.

So who is your coach and who is your 7?

The 2 most important positions in the club.

@frullens I’ll leave that to Sheensy.

Wasn’t it sheens who connected Hastings with the club when he was over in the UK? He selected him in his Barbarians team or whatever. I get that Hastings has backed Madge (like he backed Brooks) but where does this view that Hastings will quit come from?

It’s paranoia. There is no reason to suggest Hastings won’t get on with the new coach.

I think he should only be sacked if there is a certain coach that agrees to come in. I do not agree with him being replaced by Flanagan or Paul Green. I know he isn't interested at this stage but Ciraldo, Woolf or someone fresh.

Brad Arthur has been at the helm of the Eels for a fair while, had some tough years but now they are competitive. It isn't just Madge. It is the whole club. It stinks of failure. It had been a long time since finals footy but chopping and changing the entire direction of the club every couple of years doesn't help.

Hastings is quoted saying he wants to be coached by Madge for the rest of his career.

Hastings can sign with another club from Novemebr 1.

If we sack Madge, most likely we don't have a new fulltime coach by 1 November

Madge coached Wigan - where Hastings played.

He might want to play for Madge. But who’s to say Madge is going to get another NRL gig? Is Hastings going to sit on the sideline waiting? Of course not.

Also, all players support their current coach publicly. Take his comments with a grain of salt.

Thinking about it, I wouldn't be surprised to see

Madge - > Dogs and

Flanno - > WT

Madge would know the writing is on the wall here and Gus has said he wants an experienced coach (Madge and Green really the only two potentially available). Would probably make sense for all parties?
