So nearly another season over for our NRL team & as most, if not all league followers, expected we missed the finals yet again. Kind of predictable wouldn’t you say? But then again isn’t the NRL, like many sporting competitions, kind of predictable anyway? The Titans, Warriors, Dragons & us will not play finals, something which has happened a lot for these clubs the past 10 years or so. And guess who will be playing finals, yep, The Storm, Roosters, Souths, Panthers & even the Broncos after their incredibly long hiatus of 2 seasons from finals footy. It’s all a bit predictable isn’t it. I mean even in your footy tipping comps you can regularly tip 5 or 6 of the 8 possible results, 75% not bad eh. How did you go this week? 6 for me & I tipped the Tigers (I live in a constant state of hope excepting next week when I might travel to another state to avoid the result, which is already predictable.). So next season what will be different? I’ll tell you this The Roosters & Storm & Panthers will play finals. Souths, Sharks, Broncos, Cows & Eels will fill at least 2 other spots, probably 3. That will leave maybe 3 spots for the other 12 teams to fight for & that is where the NRL gets its unpredictability.
Any chance for dramatic change depends on your belief that things go around in cycles. I’ve supported Wests & Wests Tigers for over 50 years & have seen my club play finals 11 times & win one premiership. So when that cycle of success comes it’ll be a very long one won’t it. Only hope I live long enough to see it but I’m not predicting anything.
Should’ve been “predictability” so well done me.
It’s a business today and should only be looked at through that lens. Sad.

And so it goes. Rd 23 & no results difficult to predict. The score of the Storm v Broncos he only thing not predictable really.
The Penrith vs Souths game was pretty close. Could have gone either way.
@mike Yes, true but generally there will be 5 or 6 games you can predict confidently each week. Occasionally there’s a week where it’s harder, occasionally a week where you can pick 6 or 7 confidently. I’d say that approximately 65-75% of games are predictable. At the beginning of a season you can confidently pick 5 or 6 of the teams who make the finals, it will be the same next year. My son & I picked 6 & 5 respectively this year, assuming it stays as is. Of course I picked the Tigers purely because I support them. The competition is, for the most part, predictable. Thankfully there still remains some unpredictability. Hopefully Sheensy & co can bring back some more unpredictability with our NRL guys next season.
