How good is winning!

The last 2 games with Hastings in 7 and Brooks in 6 - the biggest difference I've noticed is that we are nailing our options inside the opposition 20m zone.

Normally that is our weakest point - where we seem to lose our way, set up for a set up, run a bad block play and get bundled out of touch.

But the last 2 weeks we have been surgical - which gives our forwards so much more confidence to keep ripping in in defence, if they know the halves will make it count when we get to the other end of the pitch.

Inside 20m analysis:

I've assessed our (result v inside 20m) for each game - with a result being either a try, penalty, field goal or forced drop out.

Brooks 7 Hastings 6

2 games - 57 inside 20ms - 5 results

averaging a result every 11.4 tackles inside 20m

Brooks 7 Madden 6

3 games - 88 inside 20ms - 8 results

averaging a result every 11 tackles inside 20m

Hastings 7 Brooks 6

2 games - 46 inside 20ms - 15 results

averaging a result every 3.1 tackles inside 20m

In the first 5 weeks, we actually averaged more tackles inside the opposition 20m but only got a result every 11.2 tackles which is more than 2 sets.

but in the last 2 weeks, we are getting a result every 3.1 tackles inside the 20m - essentially getting a result every set we are down their end.

We have been defending well all year - however haven't been attacking well enough to win the game.

Now we are playing with confidence knowing if we get down their end - we know what to do.

Great post. Rugba league is a pretty simple game - just need to build pressure and the points will come and so will the 6 agains and penalties as the defensive team gets desperate.

Spot on. The ability to keep turning the opposition around and maintaining pressure is so much of the game today.
