Maybe Sheens is trying to kill Pascoe

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sheens has a low opinion of him.

Sounds toxic:

When asked about Talau's contract status after the game, Sheens' answer said it all.

"No I know nothing about what is going on there at the moment," Sheens said.

"There has been talk, but there has been nothing said to me anyway."

Fulton's appointment in May raised eyebrows due to the fact that he replaced Warren McDonnell in the role, despite McDonnell being a prerequisite for Sheens accepting the job as the Tigers' director of rugby league in 2021.

There's nothing in it that comment; he's batting the story away claiming no knowledge. Classic Sheens / Bennett move to deny knowledge of anything.

Media is just fishing for stories and you are falling for it. You guys wonder why there is all this negative stuff about the club when you give air to bullshit media speculation, put stock in stupid things like Lee H walking / "storming" out of a fund raiser or Sheens saying / not saying something. Benji has to come out last week to hose down rumours of an internal split, and even then Fox use Benji's statement as a kind of "smoke there's fire" piece, where in this new Trumpian world, facts are fake news and rumours retain credit even when denied.

It's all become very Woman's Day and I just wonder when we are going back to focusing on football and ignoring the rest of the BS that gets drummed up in the weekly media cycle.

No doubt Lee will go on the attack on radio and say Jones was vindictive 🙄

I'm sure he will, and as far as Jones coaching record at balmain God help us.

However we need people like him to stand up and get stuck into the board

that’s exactly right. The pressure needs to remain on the board and management. That will become the story and the pressure mounts

Whilst I was hoping for more media scrutiny on the upper management, having the parrot mouth off at a charity event wasn't exactly what I had in mind.

NRL 2023: Tigers fans commence fight to change management after slumping to last

Fed-up members of the Wests Tigers supporter base have ‘lost faith’ in the club’s leadership and have commenced a petition to evoke change.

Shattered by the club’s flagging results, influential Tigers supporters have called for action in the shape of an external review of the board and senior management.

Wooden-spoon favourites, the Wests Tigers slumped to 16th on the NRL ladder following their 36-12 loss to Cronulla on Thursday night.

The dejection has been magnified by some of the club’s most loyal supporters who have launched a petition demanding “a thorough external review, encompassing all aspects of the organisation.’’

The plan is to share the petition with the senior management of the Tigers and their majority owners, Wests Ashfield Leagues Club.

Supporter petitions rarely have an impact but what makes this one interesting is that it has been launched by fans who were previously embedded in the club.

Steve Stretton is a member of the Wests Tigers fan podcast, helped establish a supporter group and has regularly met with chief executive Justin Pascoe in recent years to help the club with its image on social media.

He recently sent Pascoe an email saying he could no longer be party to the meetings because he was disenfranchised with the organisation.

The petition has nearly 500 signatures and the aim is to get to 2000.

“We are not parroting Wests Tigers propaganda,” Stretton said.

“We just try to support the club. I know Justin well, I have met (chair) Lee Hagipantelis. The bottom line is that the club is broken.

“It’s not the players. We have one of the best forward packs in the game when they are all on the field. It‘s is not the coaches.

“The problem is the lack of governance and senior management being able to stick to a plan … and their ability to get harmony and a vision and a culture in the club that breeds success.

“I sent him (Pascoe) an email last week and I can’t do this anymore. I said it is nothing personal but I have lost respect for the club’s senior leadership.

“We have no faith there. We have no faith there. I have never seen the agitation I have seen now. I have heard multiple people – the rusted on members – saying they hope the club will fold.”

The Tigers are reeling from key injuries to Api Koroisau (broken jaw) and Luke Brooks (hamstring), both of whom are at least a fortnight away from returning.

The Wests Tigers travel to Newcastle next Friday to tackle the Knights.

Whether 2000 signatures is achieved or not, the petition has significant traction with the mainstream media, along with Alan’s spray. Surely the club’s hierarchy has to engage and respond, more BS spin will not suffice or temper the situation, so what are they going to offer or sacrifice?

The Terms of Reference (TOR) will be very important if such a Review goes ahead. The club’s hierarchy will naturally be resistant to a Review microscopically scrutinising their practices. They’ll want to set the parameters of the TOR to a point that the findings are inconclusive and open to interpretation. I also think some level of Rugby League IQ would be absolutely necessary component of the Review, a former coach and a former administrator, both respected and intellectuals.

Well done to all involved in the petition.

If there is a response from the club and it involves a promise to conduct an independent review, lets try and ensure that it is independent. e.g ensuring that those like Joel, Garry, Steve etc have some say in appointing the reviewers.

If the club board simply appoint their mates to conduct the review its not independent and there is no point. We have had reviews done before and they achieved very little. There was one in 2016/17 from Brian Smith that is sitting in a drawer somewhere.

Tigers chairman walks out of fundraiser after Alan Jones attack

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis walked out of Friday’s fundraising luncheon for Daniel Anderson after Alan Jones called for the removal of the club’s board.

Jones, the Balmain coach between 1991 and 1993, was interviewed on stage by Fox League host Yvonne O’Keefe and asked about his views on the club’s current predicament.

The former radio broadcaster called for the removal of the Wests Tigers board in front of a crowd of 400, which included representatives from all 17 clubs who had bought a table to support Anderson after he became a quadriplegic following a body-surfing injury last year.

Sources at the Unite for Daniel Long Lunch function in the Queen Elizabeth II Grandstand Ballroom of Royal Randwick Racecourse said Hagipanetelis left an hour early.

Hagipantelis was sitting with coach Tim Sheens and fellow Wests Tigers directors when Jones criticised the club’s powerbrokers. The club is bottom of the NRL ladder after a 74-0 loss to the Cowboys last weekend. It was compounded by a defeat to Cronulla on Thursday.

Hagipantelis confirmed Jones criticised the club but would not comment about the comments about him and his directors.

The Tigers are understood to have spent close to $10,000 to support Anderson and attend the luncheon.

This masthead has approached Jones for comment. He was spotted at several rugby league games this year, sitting alongside Canberra coach Ricky Stuart and former Tigers coach Michael Maguire.

Stuart brought Jones into Canberra’s inner sanctum, at the request of his old coach, for the win that opened Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium in May.

Stuart’s relationship with Jones goes back 38 years, when Stuart attended an under-21s rugby union camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra following his stint with the Australian Schoolboys team.

Stuart says he owes his life to Jones. In 1998, Stuart had collapsed on three occasions, including once at training. At the time, the doctors didn’t think it was serious.

Then Stuart’s friend Don Furner, who is now Raiders chief executive, visited him and called Fordham for help. His next phone call was to Jones.

“Turns out I had encephalitis, which is swelling of the brain,” Stuart said.

“If it wasn’t for Alan. Honestly. He organised for Kerry Packer to supply his private jet and get it to Canberra immediately to fly me to St Vincent’s Hospital. I was gone. I was very ill. If I didn’t get to St Vincent’s, I don’t know what the outcome would have been.

“Donny saw the situation and how ill I was. I went to Canberra hospital three times and got sent home three times. My body was failing.”

I am so upset with this club that it hurts but I must say: what a classless exchange between Jones and the interviewer at an event for Daniel Anderson after his horrific accident.

Well said, it is also a classless article when it becomes about Jones v the club and no real reporting about the fundraiser. Also disgusting the way it is written. if you read it properly, lee didnt walk out on Jones, or even immediately after Jones speech. Lee merely left early, some time after Jones speech. Most likely unrelated.

Im not a fan of Lee or the way things are being run at the moment, but this is just inventing things to spark outrage and its pretty disgusting IMO. Most people wont read past the headline.
