First of all congrats on the Petition. I didn't think it would get traction unless a few metaphorical hand grenades were thrown. Also a "qualified" congrats to the Holman Barnes Group for agreeing to the Review.

I say "qualified" because upon investigation I find that three off our Wests Tigers Board Members (aka the problem) are in fact Board Members of the Holman Barnes Group. Namely Tony Andreacchio, Julie Romero and Dennis Burgess.

  • Mr Andreacchio happens to be Chairman of HBG
  • Ms Romero happens to be Deputy Chair of HBG
  • Mr Burgess happens to be Chairman of the WSDRLFC.

So I guess I'm asking what are the chances of three HBG Directors removing themselves off the WT Board? I'd say about a trillion to one.

I don't want to be seen as a "dismal jimmy", but I think we need to lower our expectations somewhat. My bet is they will take the easy way out and remove Justin Pascoe, which I for one think would be a mistake. Keep him for all his current roles except actual Team issues.

I wouldnt be surprised if they add seats to the board. HBG are never going to (and shouldnt) not have a majority and that means there is limited opportunity for new blood and also for true skilled independent board members. I wouldnt be surprised if they add 2-3 new seats and add a couple of independent board members.

I think that is massive possibility of happening.

Any independent review from someone familiar with modern corporate governance is going to recommend some fairly obvious changes for the better. It is a great result.

Probably a good result. I would also hope they say something about the major sponsor should also not be the chairperson or even on the board and that it is a conflict of interest, regardless of how well intentioned.

That will test if Lee loves the club or his ego more…

@mike agree having a major sponsor as chairperson just doesn’t pass the pub test.

It fails all corporate governance requirements for sure.

News of GM candidate at WestsTigers……..

“Wests Tigers management are set to recommend Mark O’Neill as the club’s general manager at a board meeting on Monday night.

The Herald can reveal the Tigers have held informal discussions with O’Neill about his interest in returning to the club he once played at.

One of the driving forces behind the push for O’Neill is his former teammate, Benji Marshall. The new head coach has given the Tigers his blessing to lure O’Neill back to the club.”

Hmm it's a strange appointment for the board to make, particularly while under review.

It raising a big question, does GM Football cover both men's and women's football?

Playing devils advocate, he has been at Parramatta for 5 years without incident (that I know of)

We did the Marina Go/Adam Hartigan etc recruit in the professionals. It didn’t really get us anywhere. Im open to the “bring back the boys” idea as long as they are credible because this club more than anything needs to be able to get alignment within all the factions. O’Neill seems to have done a good job at parra, morris did a good job at Cronulla, Farah and Benji jury is out but we are not getting a top of the like GM from another club to come here. At best you get a Hartigan type who is two or three levels down and looking for an opportunity.

I see that O'Neil might be back, so I guess Robert Lui will come back and a couple of others. We never learn.

The Frog

I acknowledge that O'Neil and Lui were let go for different reasons.

Shane Richardson talks about club governance- some directly about WT others implied.

Listen from the 45min mark for about 15mins - theres an ad break in between.

Key points:

- Set a plan and never ever deviate

- Boards at the bottom think they can run a footy club and don't give the football GM the power

- coach needs to get what they want

- build from club juniors as a priority- don't go for hail mart big $$ signing

The whole interview is interesting if you have time
