@tiger5150 I get where you’re coming from mate re. Not wanting to replace people with no idea , with another group of people with no idea .
But corporate governance that allows for a select members representative/s would simply be more in line with most other clubs who are run by ta leagues club.
and to be fair I can’t see members voting for a representative to be Joe Bloggs , tyre fitter from minto who has a passing interest in footy , but his real passion is rotary cars..: the people being nominated would be people with law degrees , background in business , even policians like Darcy , who have not only a love of the club but a background that would aid the club Zac not be an anchor around its neck.

A WT board that is 5 WA debenture holders, 1 Balmain, 3 independent is diabolically dumb. There are only 20 WA debenture holders and the average age would be about 72. This is a HBG stitch up and I’m surprised Barry is allowing his reputation to be attached to it

I’m not in favour of having a fan on the board.

The HBG, as things stand, should have fair representation, but we can’t have debenture holders making key football decisions, or meddling in such.

We need quality, skilled people sitting in these important positions and that means recruiting using a process that looks primarily at specific skills and experience.

Wests Tigers board needs to be the best in the game.

it should not be fan representation on the board it needs to be qualified people, make the board democratic and members voted in or out.

A fan representation from forums and such would be no better than debenture holders

This is simply not true. There are zero clubs in the NRL run by the leagues club. Three clubs are run by football clubs that are funded by leagues clubs. Souffs is a 4th club with some fan input into the football club (not leagues club) but they are minority share.

Football clubs, run by members and funded by Leagues clubs is what got Balmain and wests to the point they had to merge to survive.

Rubbish this is 2025. They would vote for their favourite podcaster.

Leave the fans the hell away from running the club, fill it with competent people who have business/RL experience. Also get HBG the hell away.

Fans don’t need to be on the Board. Fans just need to be heard. A fan representation group having input to the CEO. The CEO should deal with any ongoing issues either directly or through the board if it required Board level approval.

The Wests Tigers Board needs to be independent. The 7 member board worked well.

1x Balmain

1x Magpies

1x HBG

4x Independent (skills based) including the Board Chair.

@tiger5150 most leagues club boards are similar to the football club , but I get what you’re saying. I agree I want the best people in the board as well. My point was I’d hope that people would be wise enough to vote for strong candidates as elected representatives. For me personally I think the ultimate goal should be the debenture system not fan representation . I’m not really sure i agree with the outcome of the march . As much as I want the people currently at HBG out, there is an opportunity for wests tigers minded people people to get on that board , and use the might and power of HBG to lift the football operations . I don’t think HBG is the issue , just the actual people currently with power. I also think this concept of debentures upholding the wests  magpies values as extremely outdated to the  point of not making any tangible sense .

I’m with Rob from the Wests Life podcast. These guys aren’t HBG they are Wests Ashfield. The use of the name HBG is a way to manipulate fans into believing the the club is run for everyone when it really is only run for the degenerate debenture holders. The more I think about it the less i think it’s about stadiums or jersey’s. This is 10000% about the fact that the magpies are now a minority representation on the board. I am fully behind Wests Tigers Unite and the demands to restore independence. If WA don’t want to own an asset that they have to have a minority representation on the board then the solution is simple - sell the club.

@lestronge how do you propose that WT people are able to get on the HBG board

it’s a closed shop even to members of wests Ashfield, I think there might be two spots for WA members. But they are a minority or get sacked at a whim

That’s going off recent commentary but I could be wrong

@tigertragic56 yep it is . So I’m using the real target should be the debenture system. Because if something more democratic replaces it ,then I think it would naturally sort it self out.

this is correct. The debenture board members sacked the two member voted board members of HBg during this years coup. the only reason they could do that was because the debenture holders are unaccountable to anyone

Ive got a question for those who also attended on Saturday.

At the end of the protest, Darcy Byrne asked for a show of hands from Wests Ashfield members and went on to explain something about '1000 signatures we'd be writing a letter..." but I didn't quite catch the basis of what he was saying?

While I am writing, another speaker promoted this podcast which dropped last week with Marina Go (Former WT chair). Its well worth a listen if you are interested to learn about board dysfunction at WT and how entrenched it is.

Well this exact model has been how the Panthers are run and it has been pretty successful.

Just saying.

Agree, the debenture system just seems totally narcissistic to me, and nepotism at its worst.
