I had been a West Tigers fan my whole life. Like all tigers I have endured 25 years of highs but more recently devastating lows. I have raised my children as West Tigers fans despite the terrible way we have performed as a club in the last decade because I felt that some day our club will come good. I told them that being a supporter of a struggling club is ok because when we make it to the finals and our next premiership it will feel even sweeter because we have endured the tough times and we were true supporters. Well after the events of the past week i am seriously considering giving up on the Wests Tigers and rugby league in general. The Holman Barnes Group has show definitively and publicly that they are completely unsuitable to being the stewards of the West Tigers football club. In the space of a week they have destroyed the independent board and led to the exit of one of the most successful CEOs of the NRL era over what seems like petty factional squabbling. The HBG has no right to treat the hundreds of thousands of Wests Tigers fans with such disrespect. It is the fans that put our hard earned money into buying merchandise, memberships and tickets. It is the fans who watch the games that gives the NRL the broadcasting revenues. These HBG debenture holders abuse the good intentions of the fans and seem happier to bring our club down as long as they maintain control rather than to let us grow into the strong new entity. It is clear now that they need to be removed from holding the licence for the West Tigers football club and the NRL needs to find a new owner for the franchise who will care for fans and treat us with the respect we deserve for putting our lives into this club. The NRL needs to remove from a controlling position anyone from the legacy Balmain/Wests clubs as it is clear now that after 25 years these people are incapable of truly making decisions in the interests of Wests Tigers as a new franchise.
It has been a long and painful 25 years supporting this great club. My children and I are the future of this fan base and if you do not act now to protect what we have left you will lose me and thousands more like me.
