well today I saw for the first time that I can remember a HBG chairperson publicly state on camera their support for the direction of the club, the leadership of Barry and Richo and the CEO of WA saying that their role is to be our financier not to run the football club. Maybe that was always the case, likely not, but now it is on public record so I would saw there has been a lot achieved since that SMH article. I personally couldn’t care less about the board machinations at HBG and if it ended up that some good people lost their positions (unclear) then that’s a shame but what I care about is WT NRL

I wouldn’t be letting the foot off the throat just yet. Let’s see how independent the new directors are. We won’t know how successful the review is until an actual audit takes place. Only then will I celebrate.

I have one question why was it up to the Weststigers Ceo and Chairman to do that media sit down . The issue that we have is with HBG governance the main person was sitting on the panel and did not say a word .. what type of leadership is that to let others do the talking that was a very poor performance .
It was dreadful, they are being dragged to the right outcome.
This was a lesson to HBG by Richo and Barry. Damage control 101. HBG rep's looked like they were not only out of their depth but like they were actually attending a disciplinary hearing...

The only thing that I will say about HBG's internal governance is whilst we don't have any standing on that as fans, and I am largely happy for them to do their own thing if they don't hold an automatic majority on the WT Board, it still remains that HBG themselves are majority run by the 16 (out of max 20) debenture holders and not the rest of their vast member pool.
They can of course do what they please, but it still strikes as wildly antiquated that 16 people who once tipped in $100 can have such total control over a multi-million dollar business. Again unless you are a HBG member you technically have no say, but it remains some form of worry that even after a restructure HBG will still have 1 seat, another seat via Wests Magpies (you would assume this is assigned in cahoots with HBG) and a final say in the allocation of independent directors, who I would assume HBG can still remove subject to the WT Board Charter.
In other words the West Tigers' major owner is controlled by a group of 16 who do not necessarily have the required skills to run a successful business, but at one point ponied up a little bit of money, and they can never be removed without voluntarily restructuring.

The HBG appoints the independent directors after the search is conducted by an outside recruitment agency.
All board members are supposed to meet the skills matrix.
