I’m not a liberal voter but we would be would be mad not to invite the former premier to be a board member

IMO it would be a big mistake. I actually know Dom in a small way and he is a really good bloke and good politician and does a good job for his electorate. What the club needs is someone with good business and/or football experience and thats not Dom.

he should be on the board though but not ceo or chairman

I personally don't feel like there is any point tossing up anyone as a potential new board member e.g Perottet because Turkeys dont vote for Christmas.

The 8 current board members are not in a rush to step down. They are part of the furniture. The best way to put pressure on these individuals to do anything is to bring them to the forefront of fans minds. Most WT fans would only know them as 'the board.'

We need to find out more about them, their qualifications, their skills or lack thereof.

One idea I have is to invite a former board member on to the podcast. I understand Mick Liubinskas was removed/ resigned from the board earlier this year.

The circumstances surrounding that probably need further explanation?

I found this quote interesting in all of that:

In recognition of that passion and commitment for Wests Tigers, Lee was nominated and assumed the role of Chair during 2019.”

It’s almost admitting he got the job solely because he was the major sponsor. I wonder if he asked for it?

Wasn’t both of those only recent additions?
So basically for the last however many years we’ve been rocking with no knowledge on the board , and a CEO who spent the vast majority of his life either in Victoria or living in the US …… right … totally no reason to question them at all .

In the case of Dennis Burgess, Tony Andreacchio and Rick Wayde their path to a board seat simply stems from the fact that they have lived in the Ashfield area their whole life.

In Wayde's case he has 'been employed in a variety of other roles with sporting and business bodies' but cannot name them.

Wests Tigers is a multi million dollar organisation. The people on the board should hold senior management positions in large corporates not managing a suburban real estate office  or the career or a fallen pop star playing the RSL club circuit.

To think that someone like Andreacchio has held a position for 10+ years without being questioned or challenged is unbelievable.

@mickb do we know how long each Director has been on the Board?

One of the main Duties of the Board is to ensure that the WT win NRL games.

If the WT are not doing that and in fact not making the Final Series for 12 years, then surely they have failed in their Director Duty......

Rick Wayde I am pretty sure has been a Wests District Rugby League and Cricket Board member for a long time. I am pretty sure his path to the Wests Tigers and Holman Barnes comes from his activity in Wests Rugby League.

So true! These people might be well intentioned, that doesn’t mean they have the right skills.

The problem I have is the board are very good at running a local community club(s). Ensuring it is viable and profitable. That also appears to be the way they are running Wests Tigers ensuring it is profitable. Unfortunately Wests Tigers is not a local community club but a Rugby League club for which the current board have failed to support the main objective and that is to win games and premierships. They have limited skills in this area.

@jirskyr If he's been involved in Wests RL and cricket clubs from the time these were small time community clubs (in the 80's) then good on him. You tip your hat to anyone that gives up their time voluntarily.

I hope bringing these people and their identities to the forefront a bit more can help put pressure on them to reconsider their position.

Here is a photo from 2018 with the WT board posted by the now departed Marina Go.

https://twitter.com/marinasgo/status/982593539375710209?s=21

I can identify

Burgess (first on the left)

Myatt (third from left)

Andreacchio (little bloke at the front)

Stapleton (brown shoes white laces)

Simon Cook (recently departed from the board but still runs Wests ashfield as CEO)

Pascoe

Wayde

Liubinskis (departed the board earlier this year and replaced by Julie Romero)

Does anyone know the others?

One of the main Duties of the Board is to ensure that the WT win NRL games.

If the WT are not doing that and in fact not making the Final Series for 12 years, then surely they have failed in their Director Duty......

There's no formal means of keeping these people accountable. There is no way for anyone to assess whether they have failed in their duties as directors regretably The only body that can keep them accountable is the NRL and the NRL would only intervene if the club found financial difficulties. To the board's credit there is no such problem.

Other clubs like Canterbury and Parramatta have the opposite problem to WT in that there elections held every 3 years and rival 'tickets' jostle for position every election. We don't want to follow their example.

The alternative structure that I propose would see 6 board members in total

1. Wests Ashfield rep - (nominated by members of that particular football club)

2. Wests Campbelltown rep - (nominated by members of that particular football club)

3. Balmain rep - (nominated by members of that particular football club)

4. WT member rep - (nominated by the WT club members. WT club members vote on this board appointment. To be nominated you need to have held a membership for at least 5 years continuously)

5. Same as 4 above

6. Same as 4 above

I'd also propose club elections be held every 4 years at a minimum to avoid the musical chairs that happens at other NRL clubs. Board members must stand down after two terms.

The above structure overlooks the fact that Wests Ashfield are effectively owners of the club and can do what they want. That is why we are where we are. My suggestion represents a coalition of the competing interests but not realistically going to happen.
