True, but at this stage a little premature to judge I believe.Show me the plethora of 21 year old halves going around?

I'll just state I'm not judging him as he only has a few games under his belt, just stating my observations.

In answer to your question, here's a few names from this week's teams:

Sam Walker - 19
Dylan Brown - 21
Tom Deardon - 20
Brayden Trindal - 22
Matt Burton - 21
Jake Averillo - 21

There's several others but I only listed guys who have shown a fair bit of ability. I'd guess there's also guys who either didn't play this week or didn't play in the halves. I would take Walker, Brown, Burton and maybe Averillo over Madden at this stage. He may well surpass them but not on present form.

The real question is does Madden surpass Brooks on the present form of both?

No

Brooks will get first shot and if we’re kicking along well Jock will have to look elsewhere.

If we struggle in early 2022 things may change and he might get his shot.

I reckon Jock will play plenty of first grade, just not sure where that will be.

In saying he is not a patch on Brooks we could use him in the 17 Rd 1

1. Laurie
2. Nofo
3. Roberts
4. Gildart
5. Maumalo
6. Hastings
7. Brooks
8. Utoikamanu
9. Simpkin
10. Twal
11. Leilua
12. Tuilagi
13. Peachey

14. Musgrove
15. Seyfarth
16. Ofahengue
17. Madden

Hastings can move to ball playing lock role and Madden can slot in at 7 and leave Brooks at 6
Peachey can move to 9 and cover centre if need be

He has a good kicking game which tends to stick in people's minds. Whilst his general play looks serviceable, I'm yet to see anything to suggest he's a gun, long term first grade half. He's also a liability, and target, in defence. At this stage Brooks and Hastings will be the starting halves and I still believe Hastings will bring out the best in Brooks.

I know many disagree but Brooks has it in him, he just needs the players around to bring it out - much like when he played with Moses.

Seriously? First it was Benji and or Robbie overriding him. Then it was the forwards not laying the platform for him. After four different coaches the one denominator is Brooks himself. How many more excuses does Brooks get?

Jamal Fogarty out for 4 months at Canberra

do we look at sending them Madden and that frees up a spot for Rua and let's us have a spare spot. It allows Madden game time and experience

Brooks and Hasting will make a very good halves pairing in 2022

Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.

I'm always weary of blaming the up and coming player for not taking chances.

I don't think the club has been great in coaching our development players to be ready for 1st grade.

We have these players in our top 30, working fulltime, no excuses not to have them ready to go.

Yes there's been covid, but we have been bad at this prior to covid, and all teams need to deal with same situation.

If you don't have leaders around them on field they will fail almost no matter what happens
