Saw some signs in last 2 starts ....grab him for an extra season and see what happens behind a stronger , more experienced pack
The run of media attention for Madden this week smells like his manager putting the word out to the media to try and drum up interest.
No concrete links to any club as yet.
I can see him getting game time this year before AD returns. He's next cab off the rank if Hastings or Brooks go down
Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.
I'm always weary of blaming the up and coming player for not taking chances.
I don't think the club has been great in coaching our development players to be ready for 1st grade.
We have these players in our top 30, working fulltime, no excuses not to have them ready to go.
Yes there's been covid, but we have been bad at this prior to covid, and all teams need to deal with same situation.

I haven’t seen much in Madden. A good kicking game and maybe a smart player but doesn’t look a player to build a club around. Hastings is the long term 7, what is missing is a long term 6 locked in.
With Peachey, Hastings, Brooks and Doueihi - should we be looking at moving Madden on to create a roster spot?
I’d be moving Brooks on and keeping Madden. Madden is the future, Brooks isn’t.
Waits patiently for @geo to respond
We played a much more attacking style of football with Madden on and Brooks off. Brooks basically stifles our attack. He just can’t read the game. Just saying.
Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.

I'm not blaming him, but calling for him to start round 1 when he hasn't shown he is ready is not the right call.

Understand, but show me a club that builds a team around a 21 year old with 3 games under the belt?I agree he doesn’t look the player, simply by virtue of the fact he hasn’t played enough to determine the fact.
He has a good kicking game which tends to stick in people's minds. Whilst his general play looks serviceable, I'm yet to see anything to suggest he's a gun, long term first grade half. He's also a liability, and target, in defence. At this stage Brooks and Hastings will be the starting halves and I still believe Hastings will bring out the best in Brooks.
I know many disagree but Brooks has it in him, he just needs the players around to bring it out - much like when he played with Moses.

I don't think Madden is the answer, I wouldn't be moving either of them this season.
The maturation rate of a half back is pretty difficult to gauge and dependent on a number of factors.Look at Andrew Johns amongst a bunch of others.Jock is the ripe old age of 21 and has had his development and game time severely compromised by the virus.
Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.
True, but at this stage a little premature to judge I believe.Show me the plethora of 21 year old halves going around?

I think its too early to say one way or another. I can see some good aspects of his game but he just needs more opportunities at NRL level. Could easily thrive at another club if he does leave

I'll just state I'm not judging him as he only has a few games under his belt, just stating my observations.
In answer to your question, here's a few names from this week's teams:
Sam Walker - 19
Dylan Brown - 21
Tom Deardon - 20
Brayden Trindal - 22
Matt Burton - 21
Jake Averillo - 21
There's several others but I only listed guys who have shown a fair bit of ability. I'd guess there's also guys who either didn't play this week or didn't play in the halves. I would take Walker, Brown, Burton and maybe Averillo over Madden at this stage. He may well surpass them but not on present form.
Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.

I didn't see anyone can for Madden to start round 1?
The thread was about how halfbacks take time to mature.
And you said Madden hasn't taken his opportunities.
Add all I was saying is clubs like Roosters and Storm make sure their development/ reserve players no their systems and their roles. So even if they aren't nrl level with skills or maturity, they can do a job.
I don't think Madden had performed badly when stepping up, he's played a role without knocking it out of the park.

From what little I have seen of Jock, he does seem to have a good short kicking game but Brooks has by far the better running game. Would need to see more of him in the top grade to make judgment on his future. Good luck to Jock if has firm offers from other clubs.
Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.

A couple said they would let Brooks go now and keep Madden, I was also discussing through chat with someone that wants Madden over Brooks lol so that may have stiffened my argument.

Point taken and appreciate your observations V.O.R.Agree with Walker,Brown, and Burton, although most of them at this stage of their careers are going through the ups and downs of inexperience.
As far as Brooksy goes I’m absolutely with you.Ive expressed before that for years the expectations of him have been completely unrealistic considering the rag tag, cast off, broken down forward packs he’s had to play behind. We’ll see better of him as the squad improves
