Jock Madden’s future at the Tigers

The Tigers are slowly revamping their roster under newly appointed head of football Tim Sheens, but they could be set to lose a rising star.

Former Australian Schoolboys captain Jock Madden played some minutes in the trial against the Roosters, but the halfback is stuck behind Luke Brooks, Jackson Hastings and Tyrone Peachey.

Madden, 21, would reportedly entertain moving clubs on the promise of more game time.

The 21-year-old made three NRL appearances last year - including his debut - and the Sea Eagles are reportedly interested in his services.

Manly have little playmaking depth behind veterans Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran and could look to bring Madden across for next season.

With Peachey, Hastings, Brooks and Doueihi - should we be looking at moving Madden on to create a roster spot?

I’d be moving Brooks on and keeping Madden. Madden is the future, Brooks isn’t.

I have to say that Madden looked good in the trials - kicking game was above Brooks.

No,that would be insanity given our injury status at present. One more down, even in the short term would drastically compromise our squad.

No I don't think so.

I don't think Madden is the answer, I wouldn't be moving either of them this season.

Madden's kicking game in the trial was materially better than Brooks. I'm not sure he's a better halfback though. Honestly I think for us to be a regular finals team neither of those guys will be playing in the halves for us.

The maturation rate of a half back is pretty difficult to gauge and dependent on a number of factors.Look at Andrew Johns amongst a bunch of others.Jock is the ripe old age of 21 and has had his development and game time severely compromised by the virus.

I agree with the forming consensus that while he probably is not going to be a star NRL player, he definitely should be retained for this year. I think his kicking game usurping Brook's tells more about Brook's kicking game...

Madden would probably be fine as a support NRL half to a really good half, but I don't think Brooks is that player either.

Which means he needs to take his opportunities when they arrive and he has yet to do so.

Only 2 halves in that list, the others are makeshift options.

My feeling is that as a 21 year old with limited opportunities thus far,it’s a trifle premature to declare what he is or isn’t.Give him the time he deserves to develop.
