@helmesy Hard to argue against. When you think of some of some of the gargantuan broadcasting deals that the various NRL administrations have presided over in years gone by.Top end heavy, and consultancies aplenty feeding from the corporate trough. What does the NRL have to show for it?It could have bought sites and developed its own stadia if it had a long term vision like the AFL.Surely the proposed Penrith stadium is in trouble, that sort of money should’ve been spread across the board rather than pork barreled.
The Penrith Stadium redevelopment is a disgrace.
Should not go ahead, there are far more pressing priorities for that $300m.
Wests Tigers moved to play their blockbuster games at the SCG and the SFS in 2009 and averaged 20,796 fans per game in their debut home ground season.
In 2009 our average attendance was 17,943. Some will be higher, some lower. If Leichhardt was updated it could easily add 1500 seats to get to 20k. It would still only see it on rare occasions so to expect it to be a corporate windfall is foley.
SFS and Commbank might be great stadia, but they're not going to feel like a home ground. I like to feel like I'm at my home ground, not a chamber designed to appease the few hundred corporates (of which I'm one) rather than the tens of thousands of punters.
The SFS will still be there if we need it - we won't be banned from playing there - I just want a 'home' rather than a house.
I’d like a home ground but not a quagmire when it rains and not something from last century.
Come on the fans deserve better. They deserve a home ground with modern facilities and capacity. Anything less is a disservice to the fans.

It looks fantastic, what a pleasure it would be to call that place home.

Pity we have such a brain dead organisation that sees Campbelltown Sports Stadium as the answer. Just laughable.
as much as I dislike this guy he makes some legitimate points in this article
LO is so past it's use-by date that apart from a good atmosphere (usually but not always) while the game is on, the experience in every other aspect is far from being a good one. Maybe it's fine if you're in a corporate box but seriously no everyday spectator can relate to that as a positive!! Take the romantic notions away and LO is well and truly over as viable. (And Campbelltown which is in a similar boat doesn't even have any of the romantic hype to start with).
As far as being hard to get to the SFS, I don't think LO is any easier. At least when leaving the SFS I have the option of taking an easy downhill walk to Central Station and a wide variety of transport. And venues. Even accommodation.
I agree that Olympic Stadium doesn't have atmosphere unless it's a larger crowd (facilities are still fine though!), but totally disagree that the SFS doesn't work for anything other than large crowds. It's fine and it seems the new design will be acoustically even better.
Visiting the re-built SFS is an enticement in itself. Great view of the game - in comfort - for both spectators and corporates, brand spanking new amenities and properly functioning hospitality areas. THAT is what can provide a totally positive game day experience for everyone, not just the diehards.
This is not just a matter of adding some new seats to LO and she'll be right! The entire joint needs to be torn down and re-built to an enjoyable, modern and safe standard. I want a home too, but don't want to live in a slum! And if our dreams come true and one of our suburbans does get a proper upgrade we're still going to need somewhere to play for those interim years and the new SFS can't be beaten.
“I want a home too, but don't want to live in a slum!” - great quote
I’m not a Wests Magpies supporter historically so I open myself up to criticism here but I personally dislike the commentary around the need for wests tigers to move to Campbelltown so that we capture all the growth in population etc. As a long suffering inner city wests tigers tragic I would rather the club looked after the majority of its existing fans rather than the potential fans 15yrs from now. Apologies if that is an unpopular opinion but I don’t understand why we can’t just flood the south west with resources, pathways, academies etc and also play out of the best rugby league stadium in the world. (ducks for cover)
@barra I had no problem going to SFS as season ticket holder in 2010 etc when we played some games used to park at fox studios etc
Now with the addition of light rail it has very good public transport
The only time the SFS is bad is when the autumn carnival is on at randwick or if it clashes with the swans at the scg hopefully things like that are looked at when doing draws etc

@TigerTownSFS The Western Suburbs Magpies are traditionally an inner city club also. Pratten Park (Ashfield) and then Lidcombe. The move to the south west was virtually forced upon them by the NSWRFL. Therefore it is true to say that the traditional Magpie support is also inner city with only a failed decade from 1987 at Campbelltown. So as a Magpie myself I’m with you. Both Balmain & Western Suburbs are inner city clubs.
Signage has gone up on the new SFS, ALLIANZ Home of the Sydney Roosters. The stadium literally has Roosters branding, how is this any different to CommBank?
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
@garry it doesn't have a leagues club right next door I guess
do think souths should be allowed to play at sfs
@jedi-tiger Its pretty bad that the Rooster are complaining about Souths wanting to move back there.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
@garry I agree it's ordinary, I get souths have a deal at Accor but gee whiz should be none of Roosters business.
Also as Accor does not have a redevelopment why should souths have to stay there they signed the deal on the assumption a redevelopment pretty ordinary
