looking at the master plan, $40m basically gives you the minimum required to maintain it as a ground or new seats, a northern grandstand, unproved parking and general amenity. I don’t think it will extend to any real upgrade of the corporate facilities in the main Western stand.
it basically means 2 or max 3 games a year.
It’s not a victory but a token amount to keep some people happy. Needs a lot more than $50m to do anything worthwhile while. We’ll still be the also rans when it comes to Stadiums, considering what was spent on Parra, Penrith, SFS, Cowboys and of course Suncorp.
wet blanket response 😂😂
@tigertownsfs It means nothing .. Darcy said next year to draw up plans then following year to build .. he wants the Tigers to continue there for another two seasons as it is . I am sure Richo is happy with that NOT! I agree renovate then the club looks at a return with that probable another 4yrs at least with the council over seeing it .
You couldn’t imagine construction starting any sooner than 12 months from now as there would be all kinds of studies and approvals needed. For example, that northern stand to me looks a major undertaking when you consider how much the earth falls away there. It will also impact some very well established vegetation. To me, I don’t think $40 million gets you that upgrade, I would expect the cost to blow out given how expensive it is to build things today.

The big question is will the $40m be enough to bring it up to NRL standard.
On another point, I haven’t been to Shark Park for many years but wasn’t impressed with the stadium from what I saw on TV last night. It looked small with a boutique feel.
$40m won’t make it good enough for elite games, or satisfy the corporate need, but some will be happy to accept the 2nd rate facilities offered.
come a long way from 3 months ago they were getting nothing !!

Because the last new stand to be built there was before all the apartments. Essentially the ground is the same.

it will be enough to play a couple of games of “back to Leichhardt”
@helmesy Wait until someone fires up the chain saw to cut down those fig trees that have been there for 100yrs😂… IMO if it was to be done right the hill becomes a grandstand and the existing grand stand made bigger , then your talking ! Do not forget Darcy wants to buy the house opposite and turn it into a museum that’s around $4 million gone out of that money .
That just tells me it’s still sub standard. That should not be acceptable.$40m won’t make it good enough for elite games, or satisfy the corporate need, but some will be happy to accept the 2nd rate facilities offered.

Some say the nostalgia outweighs the negatives.
I think the upgrade will satisfy most. It will be good enough to go to the ground and there will be better food and toilets. But it is just going to be an event match. Not a home ground
They are still getting peanutscome a long way from 3 months ago they were getting nothing !!
