Footy in the year 2050

A silly thought entered my brain (always a worry when this happens), what will footy be like 30 or 40 years from now?

The year is 2050 & it is the penultimate week of the NRL league regular season. In the Northern Conference the James Tedesco coached Sydney Roosters are leading once again. They are heading for a record 20th championship in a row. An amazing achievement given they are playing out of their 2nd choice stadium the revamped SCG as the new/old Allianz stadium undergoes renovations. Melbourne lead the Southern Conference, also heading towards a record 22nd championship. The Western Samoa Tigers (previously Wests Tigers) have won the Western Conference, the first in the club’s history & although only 2 teams in the conference still worthy of celebration given the club’s run of outs (they’ve been run out of Leichhardt, Campbelltown, Perth, PNG & Fiji), finally they’ve found a home. A new Centre of Excellence, financed by the Chinese Government, will go ahead once both parties agree to the club changing their team colours to red & their name to the Western Samoan Beijing Tigers. It all looks promising for the Tigers.
The Eastern conference looks like, once again, heading to the Christchurch Roosters (the Sydney Roosters B team).

NRL CEO Nick Politis & Chairman Sir Trent Robinson are delighted with the success of the competition & are in plans for extending the comp to 28 teams. Two new teams, the New York Roosters & the Toronto Roosters (yes, it’s confusing) will enter the competition in 2052.
The Hollywood Rabbitohs, coached by Russell Crowe Junior had a disappointing year due to the controversial decision by Politis to deduct them 158 completion points after breaching the salary cap. The Rabbitohs have never recovered since their removal from Sydney after failing to locate themselves at Allianz. There’s only room for one Sydney team and it aint the Bunnies.
The new innovation of fans officiating games through their Fox communication portals has proved to be a failure due to the malfunction of reception modules placed within the Cyborg referees. The storage capacity within the modules unable to cope with amount of input from the fans. But otherwise the game continues to be the leader in world sports, US President V’landys (yep, he did it) promising that it is only a matter of time before the first game is played on Mars.

Did this during a lunch break so forgive it being a bit all over the place. Just a break from reality for me I guess.

Politis is a brain only, hooked up to a super computer. V’landys seems, somehow disturbingly, to not have aged at all.
That’s it, done.

ok an idea. If a draft is never going to be legal, the nrl should have a scale on the salary cap to give lower teams more salary cap dispensation to pay up to attract talent
