Not many there that you'd want to keep past their contract. A handful at best.

I think Blore will be fine once he gets some consistent time on the field.

Na, I look at his defensive efforts last year. really strong defensive player. Needs to show more of a running game but I'm confident that will come.

I think that his focus might be more on the thankless and unenviable daily grind of rehab and recuperation.Shaun has what it takes!

I too have high hopes for Shawn. His injuries are a worry, just can’t stay on the field poor bloke.

Looking at this years squad there is only 6 or so players I would make some effort to keep and that’s being generous.

Stefano

Hastings

Simpkin

Maybe Douehi dependant on return from injury

After that ...you've got until the end of the season to prove you are a keeper ...if not ...front door is over their ...don't care if it hits you on the way out

I think of them more in tiers - and I'm somewhat pragmatic about knowing we need at least 17 players. They're ranked roughly in importance.

1st tier

Jackson Hastings
Apisai Koroisau
Isaiah Papali'i
Stefano Utoikamanu
Joe Ofahengaue
Luke Brooks  - whilst hoping someone better signs
Daine Laurie - whilst hoping someone better signs
Alex Twal - whilst hoping someone better signs
Shawn Blore
Adam Doueihi
Brent Naden
David Nofoaluma

It's revealing there's only 12 players I'd be happy to stay on - and even then I'm not 100%

2nd tier - need to impress for future consideration - not bothered if they leave. Seriously need upgrades in this tier.

Jake Simpkin
Rua Ngatikaura
Ken Maumalo
Zane Musgrove
Tommy Talau
Junior Tupou
Starford To'a
Oliver Gildart - would need to massively work on defence but I suspect he wants to go home

Thanks for your service

Jock Madden
Tyrone Peachey

Don't know enough about

Fonua Pole
Triston Reilly

Fairly fair assessment.

Kenny M has been one of our best for a number of games with his hard metres out of trouble. But he has had a couple of shockers too.

Where do you place Jimmy Roberts?

Top 8 2023

I missed him because he wasn't on the original list. He's 2nd tier. He's like Ken, had a couple of good games but a few shockers as well. In his defence, he and Nofo have been starved of ball due to our propensity to play right to left (and being outside of Luc).
