We are told we have 400,000 “fans” but have only converted 20,000 into members ie only 5% of our fans have been converted to fee paying members (acknowledge fans pay for tickets and merchandise etc). This to me seems like quite a low conversion rate.
social media is basically the main way to connect and interact with casual fans and perhaps one day convert them into paying members. It’s like the club is so focussed on the financial viability that commercially it is mostly just originated towards its existing revenue streams (corporate sponsors, existing members) and that is the basic requirement to survive but it ignores the much bigger picture that is the difference between surviving and becoming a powerhouse.
@garry That’s certainly disappointing Garry. Hopefully those type of things are few & far between. I just doesn’t help anyone. I was meaning to see you guys last night but we’ll catch up another time. I’ve yet to meet Declan yet too but I figure he already has too many old blokes bothering him when it comes to footy talk.
I didn't make the game last night as I have been sick all week.
Hope you feel better soon.
Great thread @TigerTownSFS
Ive spoken before about the need for the club to articulate a unifying vision for the future of the club, which allows all stakeholders including supporters to be apart of the future direction of the club and give us all hope.
Ive written to the club, suggesting the need for a vision and outlined the below key themes as a suggested start:
- STRATEGIC DIRECTION
- inner west / south West/ proudly West- the NRL club that represents Western Sydney
- development club from under 5's to NRL for both men and women
- a club not a franchise (NRL, NRLW, NSW Cup, Harvey Norman, etc)
- PROUDLY WEST
- West Tigers to become the biggest club of Sydney's West
- NRL and NRLW teams to reflect the demography of Western sydney, with majority of players from junior leagues
- have physical presence across the west - that allows our community to engage with the club
- better embrace history of two foundation clubs - while recognising that WT is its own club with its own history
- seek as many opportunities for existing and past players to be visible in the community
- DEVELOPMENT CLUB
- make all future key decisions based on the fact we are western sydney's development club
- build a development structure that creates great people for WT, not just players, but also future coaches and admin - for both men and women
- celebrate the 34 junior clubs that make up the development pathways
- a club not a franchise (NRL, NRLW, NSW Cup, Harvey Norman, etc)
- stronger alignment/governance/ownership across full development pyramid, particularly with wests Campbelltown and Macarthur league, which are currently slightly independent
- continue investment in indegionous pathways - while also exploring other cultures across pacific and UK
- state of art junior academy in CSS
- formally adopt the Group 4 competition into our development pathways (which makes Tamworth game more strategic)
- HOME GROUNDS
- home ground strategy - split with 6 games at CSS and 5 at LO (1 game at accor for easter monday or Tamworth in alt years)
- upgrade of CSS into 27k main stadium
- upgrade of LO into 22k boutique stadium
- whenever possible play all gardes (including women) on game day
- COE in Concord centrally located
- MEMBERSHIP/FAN ENGAGEMENT
- aim to be the best club to meaningful engage with its supporter/community
- aim to have 40k members and the biggest Sydney club
- create 1 board position voted by West Tigers members
- heavily invest in the club media and engagement team
- best the best social media club in league - release contemporary content that targets young western sydney supporter base
- support support initiated groups/media - such as WT podcast, the ambush, the jungle, etc
Key message

I've included above an idea to create 1 new board position - to be voted by Wests Tigers members.
While I do believe the stability of Wests Ashfield as majority owner has been a good influence on the club.
There is a real concern amongst the supporter base about a disconnect between supporters and the board and lack of ability to influence the clubs direction.
I know that Wests Ashfield members can vote for Wests Ashfield board members who can then be elected to Wests Tigers Board members - however not all Wests Tigers supporters are in a position to become Wests Ashfield members.
No one wants the eels or bulldogs model - where boards are turfed out every 3 years
However there may be an opportunity to provide a greater connection with members - by creating a member voted board position.
Voting rights for Wests Tigers members could exist after say 3 years - with the member voted board position being elected say every 2 years
While the new member position wouldn't obviously have the numbers to determine voting decisions within the board, they would be able to provide great insight on supporter concerns and priorities
I think a small gesture like this would go a long way in building a strong bridge between board and members/supporters and would very much provide incentive for supporters to become members (you'd double membership overnight)

@frullens this is excellent. Did the r club ever respond?
Thanks @tigertownsfs
I wrote that in 5mins on my phone - I'm sure with some more time and proper engagement - a decent and exciting vision could be written.
It would go such a long way in providing us supporters a bigger picture to buy into - other than who is the coach and who's playing 6.
I did get a response- a lot of the key pieces are being worked on by the club and it does have a great story to tell. Just hasn't been pulled into one narrative yet - hopefully the club will consider it soon.

The board needs renewing, but hopefully with some much smarter people than me.
In told the combined game days would be ideal but is complicated with NRL and NSWRL commitments.
But how great if it could be arranged for every home game day - particularly now we have an NRLW team

I think there is a push from the NRL to have the NRLW as a stand alone comp.
