That’s really sad news. We associate alzheimers with older people, but sadly it can strike basically at any age. Know a guy who was first diagnosed at 40 and passed away ten years later. Royce is a real legend of the game and a top bloke

My father passed away September last year. Pancreatic cancer got him in the end but for the past 10 years our family watched Dad go from an intelligent, articulate man to basically nothing. Alzheimers slowly ruined him. It was terrible to watch. At the end he barely recognised his kids and rarely acknowledged his grandchildren- which my boys found very distressing and difficult to comprehend.

I wish Royce and his family well and hope his inevitable decline is delayed and slow.

2 of my grandparents had dementia in the last few years of their life and you are right @tigersteve it is a very difficult process to watch. My grandfather went from being a lovely, kind man to being very frustrated and at time violent and I just know how much he would have hated that that happened to him.

My mother found it very distressing as her mother failed to recognise her in the last few years of life, almost taking it as a slight against her. Myself, I am very pragmatic with these situations and was able to deal with it knowing it wasn't their fault that it was a disease so didn't let it bother me.

Wishing Royce and his family the very best moving forward.

In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

My uncle was a right wing moron. He was arrogant and difficult. He was much nicer when he had dementia. He'd smile at everyone.
