After last years’ loss to the Cows in Townsville, and 2 days of lying in the foetal position, hugging the air out of my son’s footy, screaming “bunker!” & “Klein, you bastard!” in between sobs & groans I decided to write a set of rules for myself that would help me cope better with my support of the Tigers. I thought I’d share them on the forum in case others might wish to use them as befits. Here they are:

1. If all else fails consider lying on your lounge in the foetal position, hugging a footy whilst repeating the words “Doubles on the main, doubles on the main”.

2. Remember the pain is only temporary, it will go in a decade or two. If it doesn’t your memory will so win, win.

3. Chanting “Tigers, Tigers, Tigers…” constantly at Parent-Teacher nights is not a good idea.

4. When your wife and kids tell their friends you're just a homeless man they’ve decided to provide a room and a little charity to don’t try to convince them you’re not. Just enjoy the love and sympathy while you can.

5. Drinking 15 schooners and ingesting various chemicals after a loss is not helpful. Besides which having your stomach pumped sucks.

6. The louder you support, the less you’ll hear others. It works, trust me.

7. Spending a weeks’ wages on Wests Tigers paraphernalia, jerseys etc will not endear you to your wife no matter how hard you try to convince her they didn’t have women’s sizes.

8. After each loss tell yourself “a week in footy is a short time.” Actually it’s still a week but just go with it anyway.

9. Whatever you do don’t share these rules with anyone on a footy forum.

10. This is the big one and it pertains not just to footy but to life in general. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY. Try limiting yourself to just 2 a day.

Sorry, it was after the 2022 loss. There’s been so many I get confused.

Rule 11 -Don’t listen to Eddie on the pod, or, allow yourself to get too frustrated with Garry’s stubbornness 😂
