Some of the outright negativity on display in this forum is remarkable.
I’d just like to make a couple of points with the notion in mind that it’s not all doom and gloom for heaven’s sake.
First of all let’s all recognise where the Cowboys were sitting at the end of last season;down in the dumps if we all care to remember.Plenty of pundits had them earmarked for the spoon. It has been a massive turnaround and upswing, one that I’d think will go pretty close to Todd Payten being named coach of the year.Fair play to them and their efforts. Now can we cast our minds back 7 or 8 weeks ago, when we were blatantly robbed of a victory over them.Since then we had been decimated by injury and the rest was a spiralling tailspin to the bottom. It’s been very hard to stomach and I can understand the abject disappointment right across the whole Wests Tigers spectrum, now that we have the inglorious status of wooden spooners for the first time.
Realistically, how many players on the sideline does it take before the results start going Southwards?Depending on the player and the quality of your roster it doesn’t take many to throw things out of kilter, but when injuries keep compounding the situation there’s not a great deal you can do as typified in the Hastings leg fracture.By this time we’d chosen to release players which was only further insult to injury. Was this bad management or bad luck,or a combination of both? There is an array of opinion, and the jury could still be considered to be out, depending on what happens next year.Whatever the case we have money to spend.
Thus far,we haven’t bagged the big signings but there is always something brewing and inevitably there will be player movement, player discontent and clubs with no wriggling room, such is the trend in horse trading,NRL style.I believe we will be well positioned to pounce and procure. The idea that we are years away from any semblance of success is just plain ridiculous and defeatist. The gulf between success and failure can be a fine line.I’m of the belief that with the signing of Jackson Hastings we will be well on the way to becoming a force to be reckoned with, and making the top eight along with an astute buy or two is realistically attainable.

The re-signings of Hastings is crucial in my opinion. I really don't think we can afford to lose him.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
@garry I totally agree. My positive outlook is completely governed by whether we can gain a significant extension on his contract.Listening to him speak(btw great interview prior to the Steelers game)fills me with confidence. What a leader he will be,that really came to light during the interview, not just Jackson going through the motions and saying all the right things. He’s the genuine article alright.

We finished last, conceded 150 points in our last 3 games and have the worst roster in football. I think the negativity is justified.
Im super concerned about 2023,
The issue is more around the attitude of the cattle we have and I'm concerned that the approach of the inbound coaching team will not foster the hard edge that our club has always lacked
I am too. Api and Papali'i are fantastic signings but we need a few more to move off the bottom. I am mostly concerned with our middle forwards.
looks like Liddle move to Dragons is off due to failing the medical

Oh no!

I have heard a comment in recent days that the Wests Tigers squad for 2023 has only 6 genuine first grader players.
I think this is sadly pretty true at this stage.

Laurie, Ken, Naden, AD, Brooks, JH, JO, Steph, Api, Paps, Twal, ....thats about what I can stretch to. Ken Laurie & Naden are debateable, some would say the same about Brooks

So it’s a pretty fair assessment to the unbiased observer.

Agreed, possibly Twally could be questioned at times even. What we consider a first grader at the Tigers is different to other clubs. We are grateful for anyone who has a crack at this stage.

Shows how gigantic the job is in front of them.

The more failure we have the less interest and enthusiasm I have.... Though that will all change with some success and at the very least players showing they give a stuff and are having a crack.
I'm reminded of the Brisbane win.... I soaked everything up... Watched all the post game chat and looked forward to the reviews the next day, was posting about the game positively and generally feeling really good (it was the only time this year)... So yeah some success I think will pick us all up

We need to go into games with the attitude that we can win. That needs to be retained throughout the game even when things go against us. Anything less will be a major disappointment and a failure IMO.
