I had a 5 person family membership last year. I received emails saying “if you want to keep your membership you don’t have to do anything”. Christmas came and went and I heard nothing from the club. Eventually I called the membership team and they said my membership package doesn’t exist this year, only 4 person family memberships. No one called me to let me know, no email to explain.

Ridiculous.

all this stuff just makes you think they want the place to die

Yeah I'm going. I became a 10-year member at the start of COVID, so I think this is my 3rd or 4th invitation, the previous ones all cancelled due to lockdowns.

It sounds unfortunate for others, but my Dad and I have never had an issue with our memberships, basically always been on-time with all our details correct and we roll-over without too many hassles. Dad's been on the phone a few times to update contact details, that's about it.

Usually if you phone the club they can fix it up - I know you aren't supposed to have to do that, but they tend to be friendly about fixing it up for you.

this is the third or fourth invite for me as well. Was originally a formal diner in 2020.

I get that I can contact them, but it shouldn't be up to me. It's their job! Until I saw this thread I didn't even know it was on!! Am I supposed to just email randomly and say 'oh hey guys, I'm a 10 year member, where's my invitation to an event I'm not sure even exists'?!

Ok now I'm even more annoyed than I was last night!!! We are both 10 year members (hubby longer than that) and we haven't received an invite to this. We also pledged our memberships during COVID... sometimes things like this make me feel like such an idiot considering how much I support this club!!

Hey welcome Kelly, awesome to see you on here.

I have been a member for 24 years and haven't been invited to one of these events lol

Haha hi 🙂 I have been here before, but I can't remember my login 😫  I also don't know how to change my profile photo... this one is almost as old as my WT membership LOL

Thought I would share my experience from this event. I’ll preface this by saying I understand it’s difficult to put on an event at the moment given the start to the season.

To start we were taken up to the kitchen area where we were provided with a few cheese platters, sausage on a roll and drinks.

Justin got on the mic and spoke to everyone, he had some graphs about financials and member numbers. All numbers on the y-axis were taken off so these graphs were pretty meaningless (sorry I’m a bit of a stats nerd). He kept talking about how the bottom line is winning, I guess he was feeling the room a little. He spoke about trying to get back to our two tradition venues with some government funding over having multiple home grounds. My question around that is how do you grow the club and memberships when you are playing at grounds which cater to less than 20 000 people? (Justin said we could ask questions later but I couldn’t find him).

Sheens spoke. He answer questions which were all very soft about his career. Fair enough no one really wants to talk about this season. I overheard someone saying after that they were given questions to ask by a club representative but they went with others. He made a couple of jokes about getting the points this week and needing a win. One thing I noticed was that he rambled on a little bit and went off track a few times. He’s clearly a passionate about the club. However he did say he wasn’t meant to be there.

One thing Sheens said was that as members we are “supporters rather than fans and he values supporters more as they invest financially in the club whereas fans come and go depending if we are winning or losing.” I find this thinking a little inappropriate, we should be valuing all fans/supporters of the club as there are many reasons people don’t or can’t financially commit to the club or attending games. As an organisation we need to make everyone feel welcome and like they belong.

After that it was a tour of the facilities which are very flash and have everything the players need on site. It would be a great place to work. One thing I did notice was the lack of attention to detail. For example players who debuted this year didn’t have their WT number added to their locker or their names added on the WT players list/board. To me these are minor things but show a commitment to the small details. We want players to feel valued here. Imagine being a young kid on debut and you walk in Monday after your first game and there’s your name newly added to the board and number on your locker. Small details go a long way.

We met the media manager during the tour and I did ask for @helmesy why it’s called “ask the boss” and she explained that Justin is meant to be answering the questions however most that are submitted are inappropriate. You can submit a question using the ask the boss link in the club emails (she called them EDMs and I thought she was talking about dance music).

A few players had stickers with personal and team goals for the year on them on their lockers. For what it’s worth the team goals were:

  • Top 4
  • Top 2 attack
  • Top 4 defensive
  • Undefeated at home
  • Win back to back

I get you need to set high expectations but you also need to be realistic when goal setting. I don’t think many people would have viewed those goals as realistic over the summer.

We all got back together and they had a lucky door prize:

  1. A signed jersey
  2. You got to cut the cake for everyone (I though they were joking but they seriously drew a ticket and had someone come up and cut the first slice of cake).

I’m appreciative that the club put something on given this event was postponed in 2020 due to Covid. However everyone there would have been a member for 13 years now and this felt a little tokenistic from the club.

Happy to hear the thoughts of anyone else who was there.

The attention to detail thing just rings loud and clear. You would be absolutely correct that little things like having your name of the board etc would be a bid deal, building culture and tradition. We don’t have much to celebrate as a club, debutants should be right at the top.

@tigertownsfs it really stuck out to me. And it’s such a simple thing that would be easy to arrange

I know the well run clubs such as panthers and east's make a big deal of making your debut, and I'm sure these little things are big things at their clubs.

They are important.

The other thing both of those clubs are big on, is knowing who they are and who they represent.

Apart from paying members, and talk of DNA- from the outside looking in, we still feel like a franchise rather than a club with heart and soul.

What was your perceptions of the clubs identity after the tour?

Top 8 2023

Honestly it felt like our identity was an amateur club who was trying to be professional. They had a wall of club milestones/achievements and the last entry was 2014 - Wests Tigers 15th season. It’s all very flashy but the minor details are missing the mark.

Justin did talk about building a centre of excellence at Campbelltown to bookend our region. However went on to talk about trying to limit our grounds and go back to Campbelltown and Leichhardt which shows we are still torn between our two original clubs.

Another thing that should be mentioned Pascoe mentioned the mistake with the ANZAC jersey and acknowledged it was an error. He also said something about coming to an agreement with Fox League that both parties are happy with. Not sure what they mean but I am assuming cash before 360 are not going to make a formal apology

I just wish they had of said it was an error at the beginning, put there hand up, owned it and said they'd change the jumper.

That's being accountable.

Instead their first response was to share blame with the barracks, which opened the door for 360 to find holes. If we were accountable from the beginning, it would of been a non-story

@frullens my thoughts exactly and I think I said it at the time. Taking ownership to a small group a few weeks later is meaningless
