This was reported last year....

The Herald can reveal the great concern in 2022 was the loss of close to 12,000 male tackle rugby league participants in Australia since 2015 (an 8 per cent drop).

I can only assume the playing number drop was a result of COVID and maybe concussion protocols/concerns.

I'm wondering if anyone has come across figures or updates on the codes participant and crowd numbers...are we back on track.

I was thinking that the push to get the Dolphins into comp may have been a plan by PV to rejuvenate the code post COVID.

Well NRL don’t even try to hide their obvious bias anymore. I just heard the teams going to KAS Vegas are:

Broncos (there’s a surprise)

Roosters (even more surprising)

Rabbits (pride of the league apparently)

and Manly ( must be a mistake)

To be fair I don’t think a Tigers v Dogs game would have been a good way to expand the game overseas lol.

yeah I get it but if you’d asked me to name the 4 clubs NRL are besotted with, three are going to Vegas! Storm are out of favour because they keep showing off trophies that don’t exist lol

If I had to sell the game in the US, I'd send Roosters, Brisbane, Souffs, and Penriff.

Tigers would be last on the list to be fair.

You have to send Souths, they are the only club with any star power in the US, so that makes complete sense.

Broncos are fine, they are a high-profile high-dollar club and the Broncos mascot probably works for potential American audiences.

Correct however that Roosters don't deserve it, Manly either. If you were being legit on current excitement, form and marketability you'd send Penrith/Cowboys and Warriors, and then you can talk about how they are "the NZ team".

But also we don't know for a fact if any other clubs declined an opportunity to go to the US.

I believe Penrith may have declined, I think Manly was chosen as Penn is based in the US. I think the plan is to have all teams go over a four year period.

Roosters were always going because they are the SYDNEY Roosters. Sydney is probably one of the two cities in Australia that Americans could name.

Nah most Americans know they are actually Easts! I don't ever call them anything but Easts.

How many Americans follow NRL mate? How many teams/leagues?

Is it likely to get big enough over there to get decent media coverage of games and TV shows?

Vlandys is not an idiot. He knows exactly what he is doing. Vegas has zero to do with “growing the game “ in the US. It is all about attracting big $$& from US sports betting companies

Manly's inclusion is partly related to Hugh Jackman - similar to Souths in that sense.

was thinking that they will have Souths Manly and Russell and Hugh promoting it. With the other game being Sydney v Brisbane - two big cities.

I’m nonplussed with it. And interesting that Penrith may have declined, they are probably already planning for ,a fourpeat.
