@mike what evidence do you have to prove that though ? Because I have evidence to the contrary . Season 22 in which he played more than his fair share of games .
man’s we won 4 games . It sure does look like more of the same to me …

16 games mate !!! And we were not only crap , but beyond boring as well .at least now we just look crap when trying things .
last year we looked crap doing nothing ! I don’t understand how Tim sheens Teflon like , Hastings is with the fan base . Why because he blew smoke up everyone’s arse with a few interviews ?
I don’t have an issue with him , but much in the same way I never thought brooks was as bad as he was made out , I know Hastings is way worse than some here view him .

He was playing behind a forward pack that just wasn’t NRL standard. Behind the forward pack we had this year we would not have come LAST.

I tend to agree, any stability/talent beyond what we had this year would have got us at least a couple more wins.

We had Hastings contracted for this year on bargain pay. Whatever you think of him or how much credit you give him for the Knights playing finals he is 2x better than what we played at 7 for most of the year. It was a bonehead move from the club to let him out of his contract early, even if you didn’t rate him.

There has to be more to the story. The way Tommy reacted to him after the round 2 game indicates something else was likely going on

@mike man I don’t know what to say then! The evidence is there , whether people choose to believe it or not .
We looked like an absolute rabble with him at the wheel . Forwards are better this year , sure , but that wouldn’t fix his 100 touches a game , and general lack of ideas.
I think it’s real telling that the only people lamenting the loss of Jackson Hastings ever in his career , are Salford fans , and our success starved fan base .

In my opinion if keeping Jackson Hastings this year meant a couple more wins , but meant we might not have signed fainu and Sullivan , then I don’t think that’s a trade I’d make .
Because that’s what he wanted , is to throw him the keys . There is/was a power vacuum here especially in the backs . One I don’t think Jackson Hastings should ever have been considered for , no matter how many hands he shakes and babies he kisses .

@lestronge why would keeping Hastings for 2023 have anything to do with Fainu or Sullivan coming? No one is advocating for Hastings being extended, just that we would have been in a much better position having him this year. He’s a million times better than Wakeham and Smith. Brooks is a better player than Hastings, but Hastings a far better 7 imo.

I think Hastings rubbed a few sensitive souls the wrong way.

he doesn't generally stay longer than 2 years at a club

Roosters

manly

Salford

Wigan

tigers

newcastle

3 x nrl clubs

2 x super league clubs

5 clubs in 10 years across to competitions

So you are happy to trade so that we come LAST. That is the exact thinking of why we have not made the finals in 12 years and why we continue to go backwards.

@mike what are you talking about ? What’s the difference between 16 and 17 ? They’re both shit . Just because you won/ lost some  “prize” doesn’t change the fact that the club would be continuing to tread water with bog average Hastings type players , now if you had your way in this hypothetical , with actual power within the club .
becauxae that’s what it would have taken to keep him .
If it means having to run the gauntlet with a brooks/AD combo for a year , knowing we have A Fainu/ Sullivan / Galvin / Sezer halves combo locked in , then yea , I’d do that trade 100 times out of 100 .
You’ve got it backwards mate . Sticking with a borderline first grader , is continuing with the same .
Trading that for an injection of actual elite talent , which we haven’t had in the club since the so called big 4 , is the only way out of the hole .
Jesus Christ did Hastings spin some of you in a twist with his Homelander act .
Not saying he’s a bad guy , but his media personality is horse shit . It’s blinded some of you to his actual footy ability . Which isn’t much .

Getting a wooden spoon is far worse than 2nd last. No one remembers who comes second last. Getting two in a row is appalling.

I just think about how it affects the players that are here (especially young players) and our reputation in the market. Finishing say 15th as opposed to last is actually a big difference in some ways.

Re the young halves we have signed how can anyone say it wouldn't have happened if Hastings stayed this year?? Everyone still knew we had to recruit in the halves.

All most of us are saying is that we'd have been far before off holding to him to his contract for one more year than leaving ourselves with no decent cover in the halves.

@avocadoontoast are you sure ? Because maybe I’m misinterpreting, but that’s what I’m reading .
Because the reason these kids are coming here is opportunity . And no other reason .
there is no opportunity both in position and with Jackson on the field , in the way he mandated everything whilst he was here .
It’s a love affair with this guy that manifested on the heels of the “anyone but brooks” group think that infests our supporter group .
This isn’t a pro brooks don’t get me wrong , but that’s where all this love came from .
when a bloke touches the ball 100 times a game and offers the very minimal output re. Points than I don’t understand what we are talking about , when the whole point of that position is to provide the leadership , that leads to points .
Leadership is cool , but what use it if it doesn’t lead to points . And Jackson Hastings never ever lead us to points .

he lead us down the field … cool … so did Brandon Wakeham . How well did that go .

@mike that’s so dismissive, condescending and arrogant .
Im not being that way to you . Why be  like  that to me ?
Youre fundamentally wrong . We came 9th for 5 years with 30 year olds … cool and then what . We bottomed out anyway ..

The only way we move to the top is talent .We can’t keep playing mediocre first graders that offer zero hope to cling onto the tails of what might be success .

Otherwise what is the point of us bottoming out like this ? What to return to 9th place . We can go out and sign Jackson Hastings and whoever 10th best player in thier team and run 9th maybe 8th at a miracle .
then we just repeat the whole thing again .
Not to mention no one in the club liked him .. but we will just gloss over that one … as if it’s not a huge issue in a team environment …

Whatever. … really immature response IMO.

@barra that’s not what’s being said though . Literally quoting “we would have won more games if hasting stayed “ .
Based on 22 I call bullshit to that . Even though I think Hastings is a better half than Wakeham / smith / Laurie etc.

It’s just hyperbole! We would have definitely won more games if AD didn’t do his knee again .
That’s the real lamentation.
