Hastings is playing finals footy this year and Wests Tigers have gone worse than last year 16th to 17th resulting in two wooden spoons.

Pretty good show I reckon.

he has some bloody good players around him namely K Ponga carrying that side on his shoulders.

do not think Hastings is contributing all that much they looked just as good with him not there and Clune taking his spot.

Does the same get said next year re brooks if manly make the semis ? a fair bit of it comes down to the players in the team all combining well together

I think the unsung hero for the knights this season is their 5/8th. He has perfectly combined well with Hastings and Clune. Stepped up since Jacko got injured, which then helped Ponga not overplay his role. I honestly think the knights could get to a preliminary final if Jacko is at full fitness. Because he is the conductor that we let loose. Thanks Shenji

Regardless what you think. Hastings is playing finals and Wests Tigers are not. You cannot escape this fact. Still a pretty damn good show…

@mike you could say that about all 136 players that take the field this weekend. Good luck to him but he’s not a key element of that team as has been shown with Clune stepping in the last few weeks.

He frees up Ponga.

Spilt Milk I know, but if he was here we wouldn't have been spooners this year. He's a hell of a competitor also

He's not a world-beater, but he's a solid half and has quietly done a good job up there.

I put our attack issues down to the coaching staff more so than the halves, but his is certainly a skill-set that we've missed this year.

Brooks should do well there as he'll be running off one of the best halves in the game, and have a generational FB out the back. He's struggled mightily with the organisational aspect at WT for years, and it's on the club that they didn't relieve him of that duty (other than a few games last year).

Yeah but the other 136 players weren’t our halfback last year…

Speaking for myself, Im glad Hastings is not here this year and next and IMO a Hasting "led" Wests Tigers still would not have made the 8 this year and not even necessarily get us away from the spoon. This club needs rebuilding ground up and Hastings was never going to be part of that nor should he be. IMO the Hastings "whataboutism" is disingenuous.

@mike they have the top 3 best fullbacks in the comp , and a true franchise player .
Hastings value was exposed a few weeks back when clune player to a standard above anything Hasting offered all year .
I put zero value in him being anything other than a Bur player  in that team .
Meaning , that if he stayed here , he would have offered next to zero wins above replacement . He does not affect results outside of allowing others like Ponga to affect results .
If we had a Ponga type player , I would agree with your sentiment. But we don’t . So I don’t .

and he lost most of those games last year. Watching his games this year when Ponga was out highlights he adds minimal to the knights and would add less to us.

@tiger5150 I'm no fan of Hastings but in hindsight letting him go was a horrible move. I think Brooks and Hastings in the halves gets us off the bottom almost certainly.

IMO it depends on the reason for letting him go. Again IMO there is no question that Hastings is a better player than Wakeham and Will Smith but whether Hastings would have dragged us up off the bottom is debatable and I'd remind those with selective hindsight that Hastings was here for most of last years debacle as well. We also dont know if it was a decision based on changing culture (which has been reported).

IMO with Brooks and AD fit, there is no certainty that Hastings plays first grade. Brooks was not the answer and IMO neither is/was Hastings.

He was indeed here last year, but our forward pack this year compared to last year is noticeably stronger. What we lacked this year was someone who could play a controlling 7 role. Brooks and AD aren't 7's. If he wasn't in first grade then that would have been an error by the coaching staff (of which there were many).
