Seyfarth was promoted to start so he could feature in the “shop window”, unfortunately he showed that he is not quite up to first grade standard.
"shat Sheens" That's best part of your comment.Positives
- Stef
- Some other forwards impressed, Seyfarth had moments, Pole again looked a first grader, Matamua had moments, Jane or james(?)
- Staines looked keen to be involved
- Kepaoa had his moments
- Bula's involvement in that try showed real exciting promise and I can see why Sheens rates him. That one play showed more involvement and spark than Ive seen from Laurie.
- Early in the game I think that there were very small glimpses of shat Sheens is doing. In particular teh ball playing between forwards was noticeable and at times impressive but of course you need to earn the right first (2012 flashbacks),
- Peni's try was genuinely impressive, not only for Bulas involvement but the skill level of the short offloads and the fact that a player was there to take the pass. I genuinely dont think that happens over the last 5 years Tigers teams or players. In that move I think we saw the work that Sheens has done this offseason. That was exciting to me.
- We didnt appear to gas out.
Negatives
- Defence generally and especially wide out. Of course early days, young players, combinations, lack of experience etc etc etc....but it did happen. Again.
- Halves. Our back up halves are woeful, all the way down. God help us if Brooks or AD go down.
- Rua was very disappointing for mine. Slow, sloppy service, poor defence.
- Scolari looked way out of his depth
Very Freudian
Rua and Scolari should not see first grade both hopeless
If we have injuries to Brooks or Douhie season over

Agreed, the lunacy of releasing Hastings was on full display tonight.
I know it’s only the first trial …. But seriously our defence looks very very brittle. I’ll wait til after next week to see what our nrl players put up.
I know we’ve talked up a more expansive gameplay, but gee wiz Tim get our defence right‼️
Ive only watched the first half so far but the defence is a concern. I’m hoping it’s just that we’ve got barely any first graders playing but I’m concerned we are going to see a replay of the last couple of seasons only with a bit more passing.
We’ll, not worried by the result as I did post in another thread a blow-out wouldn’t surprise. Just thought a lot of youth etc. But I did think a few of the young blokes had good moments so that’s a positive. Bula looks like he has a future and Topou had a few good carries. Matamua tried a bit too hard at times but worked hard. He’s still a teen so his best is a long way off yet but will be good for us. Pole still just 20 and only ten NRL games. And Stef was terrific, only 34 games and just 22. I think those 3 young forwards will be terrific leaders of our team in years to come. No coincidence they’re contracted until 2025 so Benji will be pleased about that.
Next trial will give us a better indication of what we’ll be like come rd 1.
I think if we had put Brooks and Douihie on the halves last night we perform much better, our attack was disjointed
It's pretty irrelevant. When Stef was on we held our own but the other forwards aren't NRL quality (outside of Pole who belongs in the middle). As for our weakness in the halves, If AD or Brooks go down Laurie has to go there and stick Staines at 1. Wakeham isn't a first grader and never will be.
The probable lineup for round 1 is a totally different team that was out there last night.
How strong was the Warriors team? They had a bunch of names I recognised, but given there's been a lot of change there, no idea how close to full strength they were.
I am guessing closer than our team was, but still a fair way off their top side.
Having now watched the 2nd half I think Bula looks a great prospect. What happened to Rua looked a gun last year in the trials, terrible last night (hopefully just a one off). Every half we had out there looked poor. Feledy also looks only - is he only 18?
Next weeks trial will tell us a lot more.

As I mentioned in past posts Trial form means little when whips gets cracking in round 1. Sure it may give some confidence to some marginal first grade potential players that play well and that’s about it.
Last nights group were thrown together and with really only 3-4 genuine first grade experience. Combinations were non existed and with our rookie halves it was very obvious from the start what may be coming.
So I’ll reserve my judgement until final whistle in round one and even then it’s early days. We are in another rebuild and unfortunately it will take time…. and I mean 2-3 seasons to develop ….. but progress will be made I’m sure of that anyway.

Based on last year and the World Cup, I think its safer to say that last years trials was the one off and last night is Rua's standard. He looks unfit which at his age reflects his dedication IMO.
Seyfarth the best, Stef good, Staines good, kepeoa good, 24 goodHalves out of their depth, Talau is really struggling
