It’s a sad indictment on society that we have to constantly be watching for these things.

lol.. Mate, you don’t have a thick sub-continent accent. I also don’t think you’d end a call that way.

For those that don’t know me, my background is in IT. Specifically in the last 15 years infrastructure, servers, networking and storage, etc.

I often get calls from people claiming to be seeing lots of errors coming from my router. That’s quite amusing. Of course they eventually want all your details (which you should never give).

On one particular call, after leading them on for a few minutes, I asked how do you sleep at night? The caller said he didn’t understand my question. So I asked again: You are trying to rob people, so how do you sleep at night? They immediately hung up.

My favourite was i had a guy call and start his script, I told him he would have to talk to my wife and I'd go get her. I put the phone down and 10 mins later he was still waiting.

He eventually hung up, he called back about 5 mins later and I said I told him he would have to speak to my wife.  He said he waited for her but she never came. I said it is a big house and she is on her way but he would have to wait.

I've always enjoyed the ones from 'Microsoft Tech Support' who have identified a virus on my computer. They then want to go through setting up sharing etc. If I want a laugh I'll play along, sometimes ask them to hold for a few minutes; at least it wastes some of their time where they won't be scamming some old lady.

I love hearing the frustration when I finally tell them I'm using a Mac.

Been getting a lot of text message this last month saying you have a voicemail with a link.

If you are as well just delete it without opening and definitely don’t click on the link. All scams.

OPTUS Breach 21/09/2022

Just about as bad as it can get. Names & addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and more importantly ID documents such as License, Passport and Medicare numbers stolen. Pretty much means now that the perpetrators can setup accounts, change your accounts, get loans or buy goods in your name. Identity theft on a platter…

Up to 9 million people affected both current and anyone who has an account with OPTUS in the last 6 years (they are required to keep your details for 6 years after you leave).

If you are effected and your suspect your identity has been stolen you can apply for a Commonwealth Victims' Certificate. A certificate helps support your claim that you have been the victim of identity crime and can be used to help re-establish your credentials with government or financial institutions.

Cyberattack update: Confirming only the licence number on your Driver Licence was exposed, not the card number. Your State or Territory government will provide advice on any action that you may need to take via their website.

Yes exactly. The attack itself was not at all sophisticated. Optus have stuffed up big time and are trying to deflect.

The text I posted confirming the license number being stolen was also sent during the NRL Grand Final. No doubt Optus trying to avoid publicity hoping the GF would be a bigger story.
