still concerning that we don’t seem to be playing with a staggered backline shape that virtually all other teams use. We looked way to flat in my view
Who’s doing what this year when it comes to attack and defence? Can’t blame Robbie this year.still concerning that we don’t seem to be playing with a staggered backline shape that virtually all other teams use. We looked way to flat in my view
As others have mentioned, our line speed was very ordinary. Dogs line speed was excellent most of the time, but our one-off running played right into that and made things easy for them. Desperately needed some attacking variation.
And we certainly looked a lot smaller in the forwards. Agreed on those few singled out who showed upside.
So, my one-word; "out-gunned".

Totally agree! Hard to see the real potential to play first grade when up against a reserve grade side but some strong performances were evident.
My word would be "OUT- DEFENDED", we did manage 3 tries which is a plus and we're in it to the end which is also encouraging.
Bring on Trial #2.
I will hold judgement until we see the full team. We basically had no left side attack which will obviously change significantly
My one word … Disappointing…. We still don’t have the killer instinct. Should have won that game easily, but were on the back foot from the beginning. Very little to be excited about that game. Thankfully it was only a trial and not too much can be read into it.
The difference was the Dogs forwards a class above .. bigger -stronger -faster . This is the Tigers Achilles heal this season IMO a few injuries and cactus !
I noticed the size difference as well. TimJo and Kit are a tiny starting prop pair.
I thought Kit and Tim J gave a reasonable account of themselves despite being undersized. More broadly though we don't seem to be anywhere near big enough.
Offering development contracts to Will Craig and Broderlow seems to be an error in judgement. These guys are not anywhere near big enough to crack the NRL. Craig is marking up on a giant Jonathan Sua who was really impressive.
At least Makasini ticks the size box and I look forward to watching him in years to come.
I would also like to know who decides what players get a start in the NRL trial vs those who play in the cup trial? For example this group went around on Saturday afternoon.
1. Jack Piccirilli
2. Dillon Adrole
3. Simon Tito
4. Mitch Taotua
5. Max Taotua
6. Mikey Tannous
7. Eiden Ackland
8. Vaka Aho
9. Joe Lovodua
10. Jayden Tanner
11. Josh Maree
12. Luke Jack
13. Bailey Hodges
14. Kobie Wilson
15. Cayne Nicholas
16. Marco Moretti
17. Herman Tofaeono
18. Jirah Momoisea
19. Iverson Matai
20. Zak Agbere
22. Thomas Fisher
25. Fangavalu Hammond
Many of these cup players are older than the boys who played at Kogarah yesterday and would have deserved the spot more I'd have thought?
On the Six Tackles with Gus podcast, Gus was asked,
How do you think the Tigers went yesterday?
"Tigers were good, physicality and fitness, a lot of young fellas, they looked a lot fitter this year.
Lachlan Galvin played the first half, he was pretty hard to handle, but he showed he's come back really well (dunno if this was in reference to PM XIII performance?), he'll learn a lot from playing with Luai, I think that's gonna be a very formidable combination and I think the Wests Tigers are going to have a very very good year from what I saw."
