One word: deadwood.

We still have a lot of deadwood to shed.

Word - Momentum.

We finally had it, then the time ran out...

Heath showed he’s got a bit of spark about him. He was absolutely gassed after about 60 min and hid at times whilst trying to get his breath but he also nice in shape. I think he definately has a spot at 14 that means he comes on and plays as an extra ball player at times or backs up for 1, 6,9. He’s not our long term solution at starting 1,6 or 7 however. It was a nice weekend for Luke lualilli and Kit. I’m glad some of those Wests boys have shown some growth. If they want to stay there is a role for all of them in the years ahead.

Frustrated - There is a team in there if Benji can unlock it and get the right players in the right spots. We play with 11 in attack as Seyfarth and Douehi are ineffectual and offer nothing.

Just because I can see people complaining about the refereeing on social media etc

Luai SB: knew what he was doing, fair enough call. Would have liked that standard of ruck officiating all night though - they were getting away with murder the second half, could have done with an extra man.

Doueihi SB: fair call for me, knew exactly what he was doing.

Nanai try: absolute joke. Their centre overruns the kick, and completely takes out Turuva in the process. Bunker overruling the on field referee too! Just incredible.

I’ve looked at it a few times and zi still think he bobbles the ball into Turuva’s shoulder before controlling it as well. And I thought earlier in the game when Star made a break & offloaded back inside to Turuva he might’ve been tackled before the ball got to him but ref played on & it couldn’t be checked. And that penalty against us when Bateman lost the ball ridiculous. We had so much momentum & that lost ball would’ve kept that going but he gives Cows a penalty.
I asked my son “Did we receive a lucky call tonight, any at all?”  He said “ I don’t think so”. It was one of those nights.

Agree with all of this.

What happened with the Bateman one - looked like we were trying to challenge?

Ref had called held and we took him to the ground so we couldn't challenge.

Same story every week. Refs and bad luck. Games are built on momentum and it can be hard to change if you’re gassed on the back of shit, unbalanced reffing (turuva tackled off the ball, Nanai bs, only 2 six agains after an hour of footy, etc) and the usual dose of bad luck (Twal HIA early in the game).

Mason exceeded my expectations and was a nice middle finger to Galvin. Toa and Sukkar look dangerous on the edges. Staines and sione also played strong games. The bench is still wrong, as evidenced when Twal was injured.

Another “what could have been” game. So frustrating

Ref had called held and we took him to the ground so we couldn't challenge.

If he had called held, and I’m still not sure he did, it’s a very tough penalty. If a player offloads at the time of a held call he’ll be asked to play the ball but in this case as they’re still in the process of stopping him from progressing or offloading they put him to ground. I can only assume he called held early.

Just watched it again and Bateman was still moving forward. Seyfarth grabs his ankles and he falls to ground with the other two on top. I couldn’t hear a held call as Cows chant was going on over the loudspeaker. Sutton says to Bird “You were all over the top mate”. This I think means that’s why Bateman loses the ball. We challenge then he goes upstairs saying “when he breaks it down I’ve got them all over it….”. He then is told by the bunker they can’t challenge after call of held”. Sutton was actually going to go up with Tigers challenging the call of knocking the ball out of Bateman’s hands but stopped when bunker said it was after the call of held.”  Incompetence at a very important time if the game. We still could’ve bobbed up but that took a set or two off us.
